This is one of those dumb questions once you know the answer.

Is it possible to convert 26" forks to 29" by changing the lowers or is everything different?

The shafts up the guts that hold it all together need to be longer too.

You could convert it if you really had the inclination, but it would probably cost less just to buy a new fork.
