Go to a fastener specialist and get some stainless steel bolts/nuts. Take what you are replacing and they will match it for you. A M5 x 20 long stainlees steel allen head cap screw should only cost about $2-3 from memory as an example. Look them up in the yellow pages under 'Fasteners'.

go to ur LBS or a hardware store take the dodgy bolt(for size) and ask for some high tensile steel bolts, they should hold up schweet

I am currently restraining insults and comments about peoples stupidity.

Bolts and nuts are two different things.

A bolt is the long, thread post. You use these on a stem, cranks, or seatpost.

Nuts are internal threaded, the part you stick a wrench on.

sxereturn your not the only one!

i remember once i asked for info on a 9spd disc spec. nutted rear hub!

and people kept telling me i meant a bolted one! which i did not.
but in the end i had to get a hope bulb which is bolted.

Yeah, yeah... blah, blah.

Listen to Devlin... or your LBS will have ten of every nut and bolt you're needing just laying on the floor around their repair stand.

Naz, mate.... a 15mm nut is designed for a 15mm bolt, not a 10. I think you're measuring across the face of the nut whereas they are expressed as "inside thread measurement" such as 10x1 which means a 10mm thread DIAMETER by a 1mm thread PITCH.

Also, if you're replacing any nuts and bolts on a bike I'd suggest NOT using Hi-Tensile because they will rust! Stainless nuts/bolts are marginally better than steel if you need to spend the extra dollars .... but lets face it, most bolts/nuts are going INTO ALUMINIUM!!!! which will strip out waaaaaay before you ever get to the point where you are using the very reason for having Hi-Tensile stuff in the first place (which is so you can do them up tighter).

There... all clear now?

Go to a bolt/fastener specialist - NOT a hardware store. An LBS will generally charge a lot more than a specialist bolt shop. Buy stainless if you can afford it - wont cost much at a bolt shop.

And Grip - there are many applications where high tensile bolts are necessary on a bike. A mate of mine has a Kona Stinky and was forever snapping the stainless steel rear shock top bolt (allen bolt). I put a grade 12 allen bolt in instead (I electroplated it first to prevent rust) and no more problems. And I have seen plenty of snapped rear bolt up axles (M8 and bigger) on DH bikes, though a lot of it is due to design flaws rather than material strength.
