Giant Trance X2 OR Avanti Torrent 2

I have the choice of either bike for the same price, but are having a bit of trouble making up my mind which one to get.

I already own a Anthem which I race occasionally but want something with a bit more 'fun factor' for recreational riding.

The kind of riding I want to do is standard trail riding for 2-3 hours but pushing it a fair bit on the down hills and techy stuff. Im a bit of a lycra bandit and wont be donning the baggy shorts too often.

I have test ridden the Trance (120mm travel) which felt pretty good and didn’t leave me wanting but the Torrent (140mm travel) has popped up and sounds like it could be good too…

Any advice or experience with either bike would be welcome. Cheers.

I've got an older Trance X2.......2009........to be honest I can't see myself ever replacing it unless it breaks. It just does everything I ask of it.

The Avantis look real nice though. Ride each one as much as you can and make your decision from there.

Love my 2011 Trance X1

Can highly recommend the Trance. Have had a lot of bikes and really enjoy my Trance X. Have owned Avanti hardtails in the past and they always feel heaps playful like how specialised bikes do to. I imagine the Torrent would be very nice just depends on what you feel most comfortable on.

Make a few custom mods to the cockpit setup and it is more than just another trance;)

For what you describe as your typical riding either bike would be great.

Thanks folks.

The Avanti looks much better and cleaner no doubt.

But going with Trance, it suits what im going to do with a few cockpit changes eg. shorter stem, adjustable seat post.

I have made up my mind.

exactly mate, I put a 70mm 10deg PRO stem and crank bros remote post on mine and it is heaps more fun than standard and very versatile. Enjoy.

Mate, I was gunna say you should go for the Torrent for sure.
I also own a 2011 giant Anthem, I've also owned a 2009 Giant Reign 0 and Pivot Mach 5
I now own a Torrent 3 and it is by far the best bike I have owned and ridden. I to have installed a 70mm stem and 720mm handlebar and KS dropper seatpost and a set of
Mavic Crossmax ST wheels and chucked on sram 3x9 XO gears.
The Torrent corners so damn well, its amazing.I can lean the bike way harder than I ever could with my pivot or Reign and the bike just sticks to the corners like glue. What can i say about the descending is the it goes down hills the way a 140mm bike should.I never fell like im gunna go over the bars no matter how steep the angle.I couldnt say the about my Pivot. It feels so stable and stiff and high speeds and I always feel in total control of the front end.
With a tappered head tube,15mm threw axle fork, low bottom bracket and 68.5 head angle I think the bike is set up perfect for trail/light all mountain usage.
But the crazy thing about it is how well it climbs!!!!
My Torrent weights 13.1 kg and my Anthem is 10.9kg and the torrent climbs better. Its a spin out.
so,my friend if you haven't bought the Trance yet you should reconsider your decision.
