With the fastest seeding and race run, Graeme Mudd wins the Elite Male category at Round 4 of the RedAss NSW/ACT Dowhill State Series at Stromlo on the weekend. He now leads the series with just 10 points ahead of Canberra riders Joe Vejvoda and Ben Cory. The series finale at Thredbo in November promises to be a nail-biter.

More than 160 riders were at the start line of the fourth round of the RedAss NSW/ACT Downhill State Series at Stromlo Forest Park. Hosted by the local CORC MTB club, the race was run on the World Cup downhill track and Graeme Mudd from Newcastle was the fastest racer of the day. Mudd clocked in at time of 2:16.77 in his final race run and thanks to him also claiming the fastest seeding run in the morning, he now leads the five-race series with 620 points.

Expected NSW-ACT showdown in Thredbo
Only 10 points behind in the series is Canberra-local Joe Vejvoda, who placed second on the weekend. Both riders will compete in the final round of the series, which will take the racing circus to Thredbo in November, where it will be a tight race for the series win.

Another Canberra-local and well-known Downhill racer, Ben Cory came third in the Elite Men’s category and is also third in the series, just one point ahead of Rick Boyer from Newcastle and manager of the Orange-Lusty Industries racing team. With Graeme Mudd and fifth in the series Jack Moir on his team, it will be a true NSW-ACT showdown with Canberrans Vejvoda and Cory for the elite men’s win in Thredbo.

Elite Women’s series lead in strong hand
With a fourth place, Sarah Booth from Medowie (NSW) extended her series lead this weekend to 730 points ahead of the weekend’s winner Michelle Crisp from Earlwood (NSW). Young Jindabyne racer Tegan Molloy showed a strong performance and is expected to be on the start line at her home track in Thredbo, however, with a current fourth place she won’t be able to challenge the top series spots. Cell Bikes racer Jo Fox came third in round four at Stromlo and currently holds third also in the series.

U19’s series leader wins round four
Andrew Crimmins from Bredbo extended his series lead to 830 points with his first win in the series. Second Brent Smith now holds the second series place as well and surprise-entrant Aidan Varley from Victoria claimed the third spot in the Stromlo round. Third in the series is Joel Willis, only 37 points behind Smith.

In a strong field of almost 30 U17’s riders, two Canberra riders stopped the winning streak of Sydney’s David Maggs who won the first three rounds. On their home track Jackson Frew won by nine hundredths of a second ahead of Ben Dengate. David Maggs came in third and still leads the series with 740 points ahead of Newcastle’s Tim Kmetyk who is on 413 points. Third in the series with 390 points is Josh Pollock from Wahroonga.
