Helmet mounts for lights and action cams

Following this thread, is it a bad idea to drill holes on your helmet for mounting torches and cameras? I got a very nice torch spitting 120 lumens using three AA batteries.

There are bar mounted accessories available for such torches, but I like mine helmet mounted so it illuminates where I turn my head.

It's a very bad idea. So far over stupid that to even consider how far over stupid it is...is stupid.

The answer is Velcro. It comes in many shapes, sizes, colours and even capacities. And many of them are suited to attaching lights to helmets.

A screw pushed through a helmet in a stack, however unlikely it is, may well punture your skull I'd imagine.

Bad idea.

The holes are not for screws.

They're for cable ties and yes, velcro stick ons work but not against strong bumps so I think cable ties secure them best.

There are manufacturer made attachment (bayonet lug types) for helmets and what not, but some torches are distinctively hand held like the LedLenser P7.

Still, some are silicone based rubber belts that can be secured via "wrap around" a vent hole, but some require picatinny type rails (that's where machine screws will come in)

Are there any other assault rifle accessories you'll be mounting to your helmet, other than the torch? I'd be very excited about a large vertical foregrip during magpie season, although many might presume it a doodle. A short-barreled breaching shotgun would certainly enforce your "track!" nicely.

Just lights and HE camera at the moment. Still working on a cheek mounted plasma cannon like the one Predator uses :p

Well at least it'll be heavy duty gear. I think there might be a market for a lightweight, universal, plastic mounting system on helmets. hmmm...
