How Long Until Someone is Racing a 29'er in the WC?

Trek did try out a 29" session before releasing the 27.5 version. I remember seeing a video with the designers and racers that tested it. They came to the conclusion that it was faster in some areas and slower in others while the 27.5 was faster overall. Hence they never released it.
