Garmins have trailsight https://support.garmin.com/en-AU/?faq=P01Lqy8vUY84LonexcjNE9 and trailforks baked inYes use that when i know where i am but new tracks r not visible ?
well, GPS on always sucks more juice, but Trailforks polls often so will use more.Yes but where specifically google maps the settings or trailforks ?
You change the main map on the Garmin to Open MTB maps (https://openmtbmap.org/) which has more park trails on it and you can also copy ride logs from Strava of certain parks to your GPS.Yes use that when i know where i am but new tracks r not visible ?
.I'd say your phone has other issues .. I've been using trail forks and Strava with GPS while riding everyday here in NZ and battery lasts all day no problems, photos, phonecalls, streaming music etc....

Samsung S8
Yeah, likely. Older Samsung phone batteries just die after a while, was why I replaced my S6. Newer ones seem far better, my S9 just celebrated its fifth birthday and battery life is still good (although Strava can give it a good kicking sometimes).2017, its a 7yr old phone. May be the issue with the battery life.
I have an Samsung A71 with 'Droid 13 which is about 5 years old now. It gives a breakdown of power usage per app. This might be helpful.Yeah, likely.
