Ideas for all mountain bikes

I may or may not be coming into a lump sum of money, ($5k upwards) for an insurance claim, plan on spending it on a real night all mountain bike!
Could I get a few suggestions for an all mountain bike, 26"or 650b (please don't advise 29er), with aggressive geometry. I want to be able to get up the hills, but have the bike shredding on the downhill. I would prefer to sacrifice climbing capacity than descending.

Interested in makes like denvici spartan, yeti sb66c, 2014 Commencal AM Meta, Specialised stumpjumper evo, Santa Cruz Bronson/Nomad ($$$), and reaaaally like the 2014 trek slash!

Anyone got some other possibles i could considered and reasons for this choice?

Anyone a current owner of a 2014 Trek Slash? What is their review?

Cheers heaps guys!

$5k isn't enough to get anything good from specialised, santa cruz or the like nowdays. They're all $10k builds now with enve wheels or equivalents. I'd go to the casino and put it all on black and double my cash asap. If I didn't live near a casino, I'd probably just buy a reign.

+1. You could buy a base model enduro for that money, but the brakes, hubs, cassette etc are straight off a kmart bike. I know cos I bought a 2014 enduro comp 29 (I know you said no 29ers but dam this thing gets rowdy for a big wheeler!)

Man, if a $5k bike has the same components as a Kmart special.... I think I'll nip out to Kmart and pick 1 up for the $150 they are.

You will buy/build a very nice All mountain bike for $5k, granted, it may not be Enve clad, or Carbon framed, but you can get a very nice rig with top spec components for that kind of money. You will even stretch to 1x11 speed at that price bracket.

The top of the line banshee rune or spitfire will set you back $5900 (x01, Next sl cranks, Sixc bars, reverb, pikes and spank wheels)

It's a killer deal, email singletracks for more information.

Yea im in the same boat but i had a look at banshee and the frames only have a 2 year warranty, imo that is pretty shitty for a $2k-3k frame
Go and buy a Giant. Lifetime warranty on the frames....and it appears they need them.

Banshee do offer a crash replacement program to the original owner. There's not too many horror stories with regards to Banshee frames build quality either.
I have 2, and couldn't be happier.

Sorry, worst logic ever. I can promise you there are cracked banshee frames aswell

Just don't expect them to help out with anything warranty related. DRCV blew a month out of warranty, they were quoting $350 to service it and that didn't come with a guarantee that the problem would be solved (sounded like an air sleeve maintenance). They were quoting double that to replace the shock with a new DRCV. Also had a piston blow on a Shimano XT brake, booked that in for a warranty, they came back saying that the only way that happens is user error.

Contacted Shimano directly and they had a replacement brake and bleed kit sent to me before within a day of having explained the problem to them.

They did have some stunning deals on some Fuel EX 9.9's with some very nice kits on them though; I guess those are the prices you can push when you don't support the products you sell.

Probably get a carbon Norco sight X1, Cane Creek and Pike for that money, look like a killer trail/all mountain bike to me. I have an Enduro29 and it's a ripper race bike but to be honest it's a bit overkill for slower paced trail fun. I'll probably be looking at something like the Sight for a fun bike next year.
