I know a rider {who owns a bike shop up noosa way}who literally broke 2[possibly 3] intense DH frames!Brutal!yeah, intense bikes are the best..
just like the guy who blew out 2 sets of 40's.
it boils down tp poor maintainance and ill-use

I would use a pipe cutter.
Gives a very straight cut and you have to do a lot less filing at the end of your job.

I brake with my index fingers (amongst other uses I've found for them) so I can't imagine riding without one!

Just use a drop saw. It takes no time at all, and it cuts straight anywayNot really.
I use the utterly unbelievable system of a $20 hack saw and a Park Tools steerer cutting guide (the expensive one) and it takes a whopping 3 minutes to cut.
Even harder to fathom is the duplicity of the guide (and hacksaw): you cn even cut seatposts down as well!
