Interest in a lake mountain to marysville trail [Victoria] ?

Hi rotorburners

I'm writing to gauge interest in the development of an MTB trail from Lake Mountain ski resort to Marysville. The local MTB community think it would be an awesome concept, especially if the trail is made to the same standards as the new Lake Mountain trails or the Buxton loop. Potential for Yet Another Iconic Victorian Ride!

..but we're a smallish mob, and need to convince the planning and development folks.

If you like the idea and would come to the area specifically to use a lake mountain -> marysville trail please let us know - either add a response here, or pm me, or e-mail adam.d.steer [at] gmail.com with:
your name, a postcode [especially fi you're not victorian] and a few words if you're feeling vocal.

I'll collate all the replies that arrive by Saturday and pass them on at a community development meeting on Sunday [yep, this Sunday 16 May - apologies for short notice]. Although, I'm sure we can keep collecting responses and pass them on anytime..

We're aiming to bump the concept a lot further up onto the planning and development table..

Thanks in advance!

Adam [and the Murrindindi cycle club, and all the riders living up in these here hills...]

PM sent, fantastic idea. Good luck with it. Can't wait to see the area develop as an MTB destination.

Would also suggest you post a link to this from the XC section.

G'day Adam,

What kind of trails are you talking about? You've got a big hill there so it would be prime for some downhill...

Cheers.

hi all - the optimum plan is for a singletrack ride from Lake Mountain to Marysville. I'm a bit of an adventure biker so I'd love to see something long, technical and mixed ups and downs.. A super-D trail with options for harder or easier lines. It'd be a real hoot!

I think anything from Marysville to Buxton would be more along 'bike path' lines.

This is a great idea! i have been to Lake Mountain and love the trails there. A trail from there to Marysville would be excellent. Out of interest would there be an uplift service from Marysville otherwise it would be a long hard slog up....

Also aligns nicley with the 'unofficial' Victorian Mountain Bike Plan currently being written (whenever im not riding) ;)

Anyway, yes, if it was there i would definately ride it.

I would come out to ride it. Have done the Great Dividing Trail a few times as a overnighter so anything long would be great as we dont have many point to point rides in Victoria.

I love doing a bit of adventure riding. MTB parks have their part, but I a bit of back country riding. Getting away fromt the city and noob riders

Absolutely fantastic idea. I was up there a few weeks back riding Lake Mountain and commented to mates how great it would be to have a trail all the way down to Marysville. It would be a cracking ride. Good luck with it and keep us informed.

Great idea!
I would definitely come out to ride it, especially if there were some nice downhill trails thrown in as well.
I rode the lake mountain trails on one of the build days and thought they were great! If these ones were to built like them it'd be even better!

Definitely a great idea. Have ridden the trails there and it was fantastic fun - especially when the cloud (of those massive hailstorms in Melb)devoured the sunny day!!!.

If/when they get the accommodation rebuilt. would make it a great weekend spot. The Lake Mountain website has had this mentioned on it as part of the grand plan - is this what you are part of?

That's a fantastic idea - there's plenty of terrain there for an awesome super D style track.

If you need some evidence for how popular tracks like that can be, look at the Klingsporn and River Spur tracks at Buller - lots of use, local business support etc - I think 'mirimbah' and 'S.Rademaker' on here should know more about use/numbers/impact.

My group of riding friends would definitely check it out, and with facilities at the end (food/coffee, somewhere for the kids to play) in Marysville, you'd be on a winner.

Good luck

I would definitely be interested in that.
I would give you my postcode but i'm currently living in the UK. I'll be moving back to melbourne later in the year and looking to get more involved in trail development. I think we have a long way to go catch up with the UK - it seems like every other month there is money being put into trails over here.

Hi all

Everyone's PM's, e-mails and this forum thread have been sent to the relevant consultants and to Lake Mountain marketing folks. Thanks HEAPS for your thoughts! [and I promise, I'll answer all the messages that need an answer...]

Please keep adding comments and ideas here if you want, this forum link has also been provided.

..and to give credit where credit is due, please pass thanks on to Lake Mountain Resort and the DSE and Murrindindi Cycle Club for trails at Lake mtn and Buxton respectively. I've thrown a few shovels of dirt around at Lake Mtn on build days, but otherwise just a local rider keen to get things happening.

Happy trails!

Adam
