Lefty. Crazy idea?

Yes and no. Very light and despite what you may think, very stiff. Acutal spring/damper performance isn't the best and they need a bit of maintenence to keep them working well.

You also need to consider your car racks and compatibility issues. I've got a couple of sets of crappy wheels, a set of nice wheels and shortly a set of race wheels. I didn't bother with a lefty because I wanted the option of being able to use my wheels on any of my bikes.

And lastly, can the brain handle it? I always felt a bit wierd cornering on one, all in my head of course but so much of riding is.

Im more spewing that i didnt know you could get the Stans Arch rims in ano green before i built up my bling Meta4?!!

For the fork i think its an alright idea.. some people love them.. others hate them. What they are is damn light and relatively reasonable pricing with our strong dollar at the moment.

My main concern is whether it's actually a better fork than say a Fox F29 RLC. Lots of positive comments out there on the lefty but it also seems to attract a lot of fanatics so hard to figure out how much of it is worth listening to.

Not concerned about transport as I've got a Gripsport rack. It would also be my first 29er so no so existing wheels to think about.

Damn fun police.

Thank you for your inquiry,

The anthem X 29er is designed for a single crown fork, fitting a lefty fork that is a dual crown fork will void the warranty as you will be putting stresses on the frame that are out side what the frame was originally designed for. I would not recommend fitting this fork to your bike.

If you have any other questions please let me know.

Last time I saw that I suggested it looked like someone had welded a few collapsible steering columns together.

Definitely unusual.

I think the Anthem/Lefty combo looks incredible. Don't they require an odd headset diameter though?

Nope, there are aftermarket 1 1/8 steerer tubes for leftys. A couple of companies do them now including Project 321, porn hubs by the way.

The Project321 adaptor replaces the lefty steerer to convert it to 1 1/8 straight or tapered type.

Potentially a few issues getting the bar height right as the lefty clamps are 137mm apart so essentially you are increasing the length of the head tube. So maybe negative rise stem etc.

mate of mine did this on an XTC a couple yrs back. All worked ok but in the end he was left wondering why he bothered. DC forks are lighter and work better than ever these days. Gimick factor wins but other than that cant see the point.

Last time I checked lefty carbons came in at 1.15kg and Sid XX at 1.34kg unless I've been doing something wrong for the past few years, me thinks the lefty wins.

I'm also guessing you've never ridden one, they are hella stiff. Damping performance isn't the best but as mentioned in this thread you can get a Fox kit for it. If I'd known that a while ago I probably would have kept my Cannondale.

I believe that a fair while ago, someone went to the trouble of getting a hub, axle, and crown machined to support 2 Lefties

hey Opsi, sorry you miss interpret. Wasnt trying to say that std forks are lighter than leftie more so that in general they are lighter than they used to be and perform better.

i realise the lefty is stiff and they work, but for me i cant really see a massive benefit for the bother. theres other ways of saving 190g on a bike without compromising warranty, and adjusting the the way the bike was designed to function. Let alone the change in head space reqd and the gawking of all the people youll encounter asking how and why you did it:rolleyes:.

FWIW I came across some commentary that in the US at least they have discontinued the RLC kit. There was some speculation it might still be available in Europe. TBH I wouldn't be counting on it being too easy to get hold of it it even still exists.

Silly idea. Really bad toe overlap with the front wheel :p
Why the bad toe overlap? I have both the farmboy and the model before it (Big Single) I am 6'5 and never clipped the front wheel. Both my frames have had lefty's in the past so have had the headtubes machined down to suit the 137mm clamp distance.
