Little Things You Hate

I thought Dick sold the business years ago. (???) still carries his likeness and name, just like Bob Jane T-marts (owned by his son)
You could make a case that Dick Smith got worse - it is now a front for the Kogan team.

watching a new series on amazon based on the yakuza games. the dubbed english audio doesnt match the subtitles and that's really annoying. it sort of had the same general meaning but clearly two unrelated parties were asked to translate. like you couldn't just get one of them to write out what they were doing?

I often think that SBS's subtitles are not a great advertisement for their Translation Services. I don't "speak" foreign languages, but pick up enough words to know the translations are often mis-translated (or speech-to-text software has been used but not vetted). 'Tis frustrating as it becomes a bit of a distraction.

i dont think this was mis-translated so much as translated as a sentence, not word for word. so sort of the same meaning but it just doesnt match eachother. like trying to follow as two people explain something at the same time

I find the SBS japanese subtitles often more accurate than more "official" versions.. or at least used to..

I think the weirdest thing is when you're watching a series, and all the translations are pretty good - except for one episode. It's like the translator ducked out for smoko and the trainee did an episode while they were out. Disrupts the continuity somewhat!

And @tubby74 - that was sort of what I was meaning (but unironically didn't describe very well) - when I can understand enough of what's being said to understand how simplified the subtitles are.

Had NBN connected a few months back FTTP and on Tuesday morning we lost all internet - the light on the box suggests there is no optical connection now.

So the hate is having to talk to Telstra and have them tell me at every reply they sympathise with me and fully understand how frustrating it can be to have no internet - dude I use a terabyte a month you have no idea what no internet means

Then I have to do all the trouble shooting thins I have already done again as they don’t believe I have done them and this will fix it

Then when they also agree the internet is not working they will send a tech

Now the tech will be here sometime between 8 and 12 unless he actually doesn’t need to come to the premise then he won’t be here at all

When the tech arrives he says oh it will be the connection they all fail as the termination ends are all faulty - one changed connector and ten minutes later all done.

A LTIL however is when I wen to work an hour early and told the boss I had to go home when the tech messages to say he is on his way he informs me they only have 2 staff on and he is super busy and it’s not convenient if fright arrives and I’m not there - his attitude changed when I explained I thought this solution was better than juts calling in sick for the day - suddenly he was ok with me ducking home quickly ( I had already organised staff from electrical to cover the warehouse in my absence. - he held no power over me as it’s my last day tomorrow anyway what was he going to do fire me? lol

The last time I ordered through DS online, they offered a free trial offer of delivery for one month with no extra charges, well long story short they deducted $125 from my credit card for the service after a month and to get most of it back I ended up doing a long series of emails to them. They also charged me delivery for the one item after I cancelled which ended up being more expensive than if I had bought the item elsewhere with the delivery charges added.

They will never see another cent of my money again, as shit as Ali express is, it shits all over them.

Yeah, Ive been through that exact bit of fuckery with those pricks too...

community association shenanigans.

we've got one resident who tried to control everything. they got on the committee as secretary and would openly lie, change meeting times and only tell the "right" members. got an agent to go along with it. for 3 years i was pretty much alone fighting this before people caught on and others helped ghet people to vote. The agent did every dishonest act you could think of to stay in power, cost us over $100K to get them to go away. NCAT were utterly useless. now that agent and the busybody are back farming proxies. i just dont have the energy to deal with this crap.

how pathetic is your life when you quest for power over who mows the gardens? what colour people can paint their house? the association doesnt own anything more than a few gardens and some architecture standards

Is that like a homeowners association like they have in the US? I didnt think we had that sort of thing here.

lot of new developments here have community title, pretty similar to HOAs. mostly as council didnt want to take on maintaining a few small open spaces, plus some rules about what you can change to your home. ive yet to see any benefit here
