Little Things You Hate

I bet a hip replacement doesn't cost them $20K to provide.

Maybe its like a country pub where they make basically nothing on meals and its the alcohol that pays the bills ;)

I paid to get my arm op done privately so I could get on the healing train ASAP, of the 4 bills I paid, the theatre invoice included a night in the hospital at $1300, there'll be a fair few nights laying there after hip operation.

Luckily I made a miraculous recovery and got out of the Hosp at 8pm that same night with a pocket full of endone, expecting a refund at some stage

Greed for record profits. Hospital gets $22k in 2015 for a hip replacement, now $20k, sure the premiums have reduced by 10% from 2015 to 2023 🤬
From what I've seen personally they're nothing but legal criminals, if you quote a job as a mechanic and it goes over people tear the shit out of you and report you to Govt departments. When someone from the medical profession does it's tolerated and they make 10 times the amount and it's more likely they can absorb the cost.

That's what happens when you let the doctors regulate themselves.

When I had Surgery on my Stomach the local Surgeons were $1000 out of pocket for the procedure - My GP said do not go to the local ones and I went to Brisbane - The leading guy in Brisbane was $5000 out of pocket for the same procedure - I have met 6 other people that had the procedure locally and they have had nothing but problem after problem post surgery - mine has been perfect.

Its interesting when you go to the Dentist they ask you if you have Private Health and if you don't the price is cheaper for everything - They say to "Help you Out" - i suspect there is a gravy train in place for Private Health providers paying.

Ran my fingers around the lid of the yoghurt tub to pry it off and added a paper cut type slice all the way across the rude finger on my dominant hand. A little pain, a lot of blood and now 6 months of healing as I am old.

Rub some yoghurt into the wound to kill off any bad bacteria.

Customer service staff that don't know how to engage a customer appropriately.

Lucky you don't drive and haven't had the pleasure of experiencing drive through service these days.

Another 24hr gone.

I acknowledge they are all volunteers, resources are thin, blah Blah Blah. But it sounds to me like Bike SA are sticking to their standard ways and they know the money is in looking after the oldies on their gravel bikes.

It will be back bigger and better? Yeah right. They barely wanted to run it last year.

We're writing to share an important update about Dirty Weekend

Dirty Weekend

Dear Dirty Weekend riders,

We’re writing to share an important update about Dirty Weekend, South Australia’s iconic 24-hour mountain biking challenge. After much consideration, we’ve decided to pause the event for 2025.

This decision wasn’t made lightly, but the timing of Dirty Weekend has traditionally fallen near the end of April / early May, which presents unique challenges in 2025:

– The end of April coincides with ANZAC Day, Easter, and school holidays, making it a particularly busy time for many of our riders and volunteers.
– Fox Creek Bike Park, our wonderful venue, remains unavailable for earlier dates due to heightened bushfire risks.
– This timing also overlaps closely with Bike SA’s Outback Odyssey in early May, which will already require significant resources and focus from our events team.

We remain committed to Dirty Weekend and its incredible legacy. Pausing the event gives us the opportunity to reflect and ensure that when Dirty Weekend returns, it does so with the energy, resources, and passion it deserves.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding. While 2025 may be a year without Dirty Weekend, we’re excited about the possibilities the future holds and look forward to sharing updates with you as we plan ahead.
– The Team at Bike SA

That was the last one I reckon.

When they cancelled it a few years back due to the new CEO and it purely being a profit decision, the loyal crowd dropped off the annual event habit. You remember they didn't even give a warning asking people to get their entries in.

I had done it every year from 2009 to 2021 in some capacity, after the year break, everyone went off the boil.

Melrose it is then @Cardy George, 23-24 August for the Mountain Bike Marathon National Championships then stick around for another 5 days of rides and laughs till the 29th Aug when you get to do 18hrs of Melrose.
