Monster Energy/Iron Horse/Mad Catz Racing’s Havukainen To Contest Select New Zealand Nationals In ‘07
Justin Havukainen stays home to pursue several ventures in his native land

SAN DIEGO (Oct. 30, 2006) – Monster Energy/Iron Horse/Mad Catz Racing’s Justin Havukainen has decided to forego the upcoming 2007 U.S. Nationals and UCI World Cup series seasons and instead put the rubber to his home soil to challenge a number of the New Zealand National rounds and pursue other business ventures.

According to Sean Heimdal, Monster Energy/Iron Horse/Mad Catz Racing’s team manager, Havukainen was an integral part of the program the past two seasons and will certainly be missed.

“It’s been awesome having Justin on the program,” said Heimdal. “Justin’s smooth riding style on the track, as well as his laid back style off the track will not only be missed by the Iron Horse organization, but all the people on the circuit. I wish him well in his New Zealand adventures, and I hope to see ‘The Hurricane’ return to the World Cup.”

Said Havukainen: “I’m taking a year off to re-motivate myself and figure out a plan for the future. I’m also putting a lot of time into the heli-bike adventures at Vertigo Bikes and helping refine the Queenstown (NZ) Freestyle Mountain Bike Park and will be doing as many NZ National rounds as possible. I would like to thank all of my sponsors and people who supported me including: Stew, Todd, Sean and Jacy at Iron Horse Bicycles, Joe and Terri at Monster Energy, Dawson and the crew at SRAM, Dave and Michael at E-13 Ollie at Funn, Jeremiah at Utopia Optics, Mike at TLD, Steve at 510 and everyone else that has supported me along the way. Thank you.”

Lending a hand to the Monster Energy/Iron Horse/Mad Catz racing team are sponsors: Alligator Cables (shifter cables), Avid (brakes), Crank Brother (pedals), DT Swiss (wheels, rims, hubs, and spokes), E13 (chain guides), Five Ten (shoes), Fox Shox (rear shocks), FSA- Cranks (bottom brackets, seat posts, headsets), FUNN (handle bars and stems), Maxima (lubes), Maxxis (tires), Minoura (trainers), Rock Shox (suspension), Selle Italia (seats), SRAM (drive train), THE (chain stay protectors) and Troy Lee Designs (ride gear).
