This topic just came to mind while reading an article on another site.
So the question is what's the most ingenious, bizarre, dodgy or ramshackle repair you've made (or seen made) to get by or get home?
To start off, mine was on a weekend XC ride in Canberra, on my old GT Outpost Trail. It was the halfway through the second day, when I got overzealous downhill, hit a rut heavily, buckled the rear wheel and the V brakes wore a hole through the tyre sidewall before I could stop.
This led to the tube bulging out of the tyre when inflated, and threatening to burst. We ended up wrapping that section of the tube in strapping tape to keep it compressed, patching the tyre with cardboard, and trueing the wheel as best possible, and repeating the process regularly on the way home. :?
Needless to say, I was not the most popular guy for a bit
