people can be absolute idiots when it comes to fires. Polza, do your own research or go to thredbo, just don't expect other people to keep you up to date. We have no obligation to provide you with any updates at all but we post periodically to help the plebs figure out what's going on.

The fire has reached the summit but they don't seem too concerned at this point. From the DSE website:
Otherwise, fire activity is generally low, and burning within control lines. Monitoring and asset protection near private property is being undertaken as necessary.
There has been an increase in fire activity on the western side of Mt Buller and the fire has reached the summit but is not in the village (Sunday 7 Jan 2007). Aircraft are water bombing this area.

The Mt Buller Road is closed to all traffic except emergency vehicles and local traffic. Crews are inspecting and clearing the Mt Buller Road of fallen trees and rocks.

Rappel crew are working on hotspots on the plateau of Mount Buffalo, while Parks Victoria staff work towards reopening the park.

Fire progresses across southern ski runs
11 January 2007

11:45am – The fires on the southern slopes of Mt Buller continued to burn last night, progressing across more of the ski run area.

In the last 24 hours, fires have moved in an easterly direction from Fanny’s Finish, across Howqua and Family Run. From there, it moved down the mountain to Zwier’s Zig Zag, across to Outer Edge and onwards to the bottom of Wombat.

From Wombat, fire continued in a southerly direction, moving aggressively up Little Mt Buller mountain (not the run). It then came back down the mountain and is now progressing down the valley and into Federation ski run.

It is believed that the fire at Federation will continue to move in an easterly direction today and is likely to join with fires that are now occurring in the Corn Hill Road/Quarry area.

Although fire was particularly active in the ski run area, all ski-infrastructure remains untouched by fire. The chairlifts in the fire affected region, particularly Wombat Chairlift between the bottom and mid-station, have been kept running to protect the lift cables and snow guns are being used to further protect assets and vegetation.

Fires came close to Kofler’s Restaurant (across the grass) and near Wombat Kiosk but both commercial operations are untouched and appear to be out of danger.

As a result of the fire activity on the southern slopes, a road block has been put in place at the Arlberg Hotel to prevent general traffic from accessing the upper parts of the Resort. Only emergency vehicles can use this road.

While the Mt Buller Tourist Road is currently open, Resort Management advises against travel into the Resort due to fire danger and the number of emergency vehicles using this road. Please be aware that this road may by closed to all upwards and downwards moving traffic at very short notice by VicRoads. Anyone located in the Village at that time will be forced to remain there until the fire threat has passed.

Anyone entering the Village to protect their property should proceed with caution and register their presence at the Mt Buller CFA.

Residents have been warned to remain vigilant even though the Mt Buller Village remains untouched by fire. Resort Management advises residents and workers to again place bins full of water and mops and buckets outside of their properties to prepare for any ember attack that may eventuate today.

A community meeting will be held at 5:00pm at the Mt Buller Chalet to advise all people located on-mountain about the latest fire developments.

For further information about Mt Buller please contact Resort Management on (03) 5777 6077

Fuck Yeah

Mt Buller in good position
10:30am – Fires near the Sewage Treatment Plant that yesterday threatened assets on Chamois and Stirling Roads have now been contained. Fire did not enter the Mt Buller Village overnight and the front is now moving away from the Resort.

Fire crews are making the most of the calm weather that is present today and expected to hold until Monday to conduct back burning operations around the Corn Hill area. Working backwards from Corn Hill Walking Track, this back burning will provide further protection to the eastern side of the Resort and also the Mt Buller Tourist Road in case the front changes direction.

The CFA is confident that if it can achieve all of its back burning objectives today, then Mt Buller has seen the worst of the fires and it will be able to scale down crews by Monday.

The lack of wind means that there is a fair amount of smoke in the Village. Smoke may increase throughout the day as a result of back burning operations.

Fire impact on the Resort remains minimal. No properties, ski-run infrastructure or assets (including the Sewage Treatment Plant) have been touched by flames.

The Mt Buller Tourist Road will remain closed to general traffic over the weekend but is open to residents, emergency vehicles and other essential traffic.

The road block that was situated at the Arlberg Hotel to prevent vehicles from accessing the upper parts of the Resort has been removed.

As Mt Buller’s fire situation has eased, there will be no community briefing tonight. The next community briefing will be held at 9:00am tomorrow morning (Sunday) to update people located on-mountain about the latest movements of the front and the back burning operation.

As fire activity around Mt Buller is currently static, there shall be no further Fire Updates this weekend unless the Resort's fire status dramatically changes.

For more information about Mt Buller and its fire situation, please contact Resort Management on (03) 5777 6077. For further details about the fires, please contact the bushfire hotline on 1800 240 667 or visit the CFA or DSE websites:

Sounds like bloody good news. Let's hope it's all under controll soon, as this week looks like there will be a few 30+ degree days in it.

Did anyone watch sunrise yesterday (Thursday)? The weather girl came up to spurs and we got her dressed up in full body armour and riding a Kona Stinky! Very funny.

... where I admit I'm an idiot?
hey guys, i just got back from buller this weekend. it was brutal, the main tracks aren't as smooth as they used to be though, theres also bore water and drain run offs making the track all muddy (more fun but hell slippery). outlaw and yellowpost are really smooth at the moment. abom's wet, international is faster and more technical/advanced (things like the long wall ride/berm after the drop, the ski launch is like a jump now, the big wall ride has big steps/drops before it......if you haven't been lately theres a jump on the fire road of international followed by a sort of step up......then there's klingsporn (top to bottom) it's soooooo smooth at the moment. iv got a helmet cam of it i might post up. yeah so, thought id update. cheers, ryan.

anyone know if buller's opening on Boxing Day again this year?
Yes I can confirm this. I will be working my arse off as soon as the snow season is over to get the tracks in working order and all armoured up. We should get a bit more money to improve the current tracks and to get enviros up to ok new tracks for 08/09. ABOM will be raced for the state round and International for the state champs. Thanks for updating Jack.

Cheers, Isaac.
