Heading out there tomorrow sometime. Should be a good ride. How would a set of Conti Mountain Kings go?

exciting

was out there this morning braving the massive winds, 1st impressions were "wow" lots of water there, and then I saw the gate/fence. Mugger then alerted me to the fact that we have to go all the way up there (points at the top of the 4X track) before getting near the trails. Damn!..ahh well I jumped on the Jamis Parker Mk 2 and we hit it , punched (well, pushed) straight to the top on the fire road while the real XC boys rode all the way. The few bits I saw of the DH track looks pretty cool so we decided to push all the up the top to the where the fire road turns into switchbacks but I bailed out after doing a few switches and not knowing how much further to go. So we rode back down a bit then cut into the trails.

I can't remember which ones we did (looks for mugger) tunnel of love maybe or tunnel for the ICB but track 1 was super fun and the wall ride was sweet, I rode it pretty high and almost overshot at the exit and at that speed when you gap the fau log step down into the lil tabletop it's super short, maybe a lil slower coming into it next time. We went back and hit it again then got hit with a left rear blowout. Ohh, and what did I say as we rode thru the gate.... shit ! I left my spare tube in the car, ahh its cool I won't get a flat....sheesh. So that was the end of the riding for me, opened up a powa bar had a rest and then pushed back to the car.

I got some cool POV footage of mugger losing control and also myself in the dusty dry condition, I'l ledit it at work on mundee and post it yup.

Overall, I was really impressed and will be back again. I think in the dead of summer people are going to die out there but now with the temps, its perfect. I would like to camp there also for a weekend and do a lot more exploring/riding.

Andy, Like others have said... the gate is in the wrong place, or is it going to be opened up in future?. I think moving it up to the top of the 4X track and turning that area into a parking lot would be ideal. Also, I don't see many people wanting to do the 4X and push back up all the time, shuttles there would be good if dudes are just there to run the 4X for practise.

see you at the TOP.

Was out there at 8.30 and didn't notice any wind  We did Bovine, Blackrock then track 8 from just below the steap logged section as well as the 4x track a couple of times on our wat back. The ransome handled everything including most of the gaps on track 8. It took some time to get used to a bike with only 6" and 680mm bars(haven't ridden the Ransome in at least 12 months) after riding a Demo 9 with 780s. But by track 8 I had the hang of it. Have to say these are the best trails i've ridden in SEQ. For the AM bike Blackrock is my favourite. Its so flowy although a couple of berms are starting to blow out. Its going to get real dusty out there in the middle of summer. The climb to the top isn't easy but its worth it for the trip down. We caught up with a couple of the Downfall MTB guys out there on DH bikes and they did blackrock and track 8 with us. We are all heading back out in 2 weeks with the DH bikes to do some push runs. Again it is a big push but in my opinion it is worth the push. Shuttles would be awsome but untill thats an option im happy to push.

It would be nice if they had vehicle access to the area most of the tracks finish at near the timber berm. With some BBQs etc. At least then you could take the family out for the day and get to see them at the bottom of your runs and have some lunch. The car park is just too far away. But in saying that I didn't think the climb to the 4x track was all that hard.

If you havent been there your missing out. And its all FREE totaly FREE.

Got video footage of all the runs from the top. Will try and get them up tomorrow.

Massive excitement - tunnel of love into track 1 into sick wallride.

We rode/mostly pushed to the bit where the DH track goes over the logs down the steep section into a jump. Might try go further next time to ride more trails.

STP failed massively at climbing - XC bike donations anyone?

In that rennie video on the mt. joyce website - what track are they riding at the start?

All the vid is of Track 1 Bovine Groove Muggs. That was all that was there when the vid was made. Really freshly cut.

Binner, it is WAY easier to ride up the single track than push up the fireroad dude. Those switch backs above the step log section on the DH track is nearly at the top, you didn't have far to go.

The other DH track, where the gate is, is way harder.

Ahh ok. Next time I'll see how I go pedalling uphill. I figured I was pretty close to the top but didn't really know how far it was going to go on.

There is always next time.

I had a great ride out there this morning about 8. I rode up Tunnel vision, then up worm juice, then up big bertha to get to the very top.
Then came down bovine groove as far as the tunnel. Then pushed the fireroad all the way to the top again, taking some time to have a look at some sections on the DH tracks on the way up.
Then down big bertha, into tuna chunks and back onto bovine groove and tunnel vision all the way to the bottom.

2.5 hours, nice cool temps, nice views, good to see a lot of riders out there, totally stoked.

Have attached some random pics of blue runs and black runs to show the quality of the tracks. Also my bike setup which I am loving. I can lock out the rear for climbing but I still have a fair weight penalty. On the downhills I switch to 6.5 inches of travel and some slacker angles and it's perfect. Dropper seat post is in the mail.

Met a family with 3 kids in the car park and the dad asked where the tracks start, I pointed to the hill on the other side of the dam and you could hear his heart break.

Yeah not much further at all to the top.
From the top you can do all of bovine groove or go around the access road to the other ridge and into black rock. Both of those tracks are absolute winners.

Headed out there yesterday, although we didnt get to start until the afternoon, there are some SWEET tracks. We toughed it up the fireroad all the way to the top, stopping to look at the DH tracks and thinking to ourselves fuck that, then flogged it down track 1. All the way to the bottom, then headed back to the car. Some sweet trails, although im going to have to invest in some new brakes or pads. Mine overheated twice on the way down... Some new 2012 xts might be on the table, along with some beefier forks... Maybe some 160 adjustables? Also new wheels lol...

Hey all,

This Sunday (July 31, 2011) the Queensland Bike Trials Club will be holding a trials competition at Mt Joyce. We have been kindly allowed access to the area just below the 4X track and will be running a State Round. If you are out and about for a trail ride please feel free to drop in and say hi.

Cheers,

Tim

What's the go with camping out there? I see on the website it says you park and then carry your gear to the camping ground as there's no car access?? But I have a campervan, can I just park in the car park and sleep there over night?

Just send an email and ask Sprocket. They are usually fast to respond. Depends on which campsites you are talking about. The ones at the carpark are right on the road. The one at the base camp is a 8km hike.

There are some photos of the Base Camp on my ride profile from Sunday. Just click on the camera on the map.
