A great night last night for the return of NFF racing at the Youies!

It wasn't looking good heading out there, with thunder, lightening and driving rain, but all that passed by about 6, and the clouds parted for a ripper night for a roll. A few puddles on the first lap, but they were gone by the second it was hero dirt under tyres.

Massive thanks to the crew for last nights round, can't wait until I can make it back out again.

If you haven't done one of these events, why not? A different type of race each week, all in the Kurrajong side of the Youies, so achievable by all, its cheap, there's no stress and there's chocolate up for grabs! What's not to like?

It's real grass roots racing, and damn it's fun!

No Frills starts with a (lightening) bang!

Much consternation surrounded the group of riders who gathered at the Duck Ponds School on Friday night. Would the weather settle enough for us to race? Would the tracks stand up to the rain?

After a slight delay while we all huddled out of the storm, Race Director Nick headed out to check out the tracks and set a modified course - not a long loop but 3 loops to Kurrajong Picnic ground & back. This was the grading race to start the series so expectations were high and as it turned out the weather was very kind for the race (if a bit steamy) and the tracks stood up well (thanks Trav, the trail crew & Parks Vic).
Cam Winn made a great start to his NFF career with the win, followed by 2011 Club Champ Runner Up Tim Corbett and Winter NFF B grade winner Scott Blade. Current Club Champ Ryan Lloyd is in Perth at the Nationals so he'd better be ready for a good race next week! First timers Joel Armitage & Anne Antrecht did well in the top ten and it was good to see 'old-timers' Sofie Van Gunsteren & Glenn Martini back at NFF.

Results with Grading are on the results page. Anyone who is unhappy with their grading and wants to go up a grade let us know before next week! We'll be running A, B, & C plus a Women's grade this series, so come on, get out there next week.

Hey Marty, any truth to the rumour that crits, relays, and smarties are involved? No pressure, but I really like smarties.

2012 off and racing

2012 off and racing!
Sat, Jan 21 2012 12:56
First-time Race Director David Jupp set a great enduro course for us all at NFF last night. I don't think he realised what he'd got himself in for when nearly 60 riders were zooming through the timing area doing 8-10min laps!
Cam Winn, Tim Corbett & Thomas Grant had a great tussle for overall honours, with lots of hot competition throughout the grades:
B grade: David Keir, Ben Lord & Glenn Withers
C grade: Michael Eldridge, Nick Pile & Tim McDonnell
Women: Jo Williams, Kirra Dyer & Aleisha Bald
Newbies: Gerard McHugh, Adam Ryan & Chuck Swanton.

There were some minor glitches in the computer timing, so checkout the corrected results on the Results page.

Next week Timmy Tyler will be running the 'World Championship' of Kurrajong Dirt Crits, so make sure you come along. After the race we'll be having a 'familiarisation ride' for the Gazebo Rd 2 course so get a late pass and bring your lights.

Bit of a silly question, but what is the format of the racing? Is it time or distance based? Am keen to give this a go, even though it's near the end of the series! :).

Hi, Pretendingtoride,

Each week we have a slightly different format and different course, sometimes a big loop, sometimes multiple laps. We've had a mini enduro, dirt crit night, handicap race, time trial. We even had a Le Mans start last week. Changing formats is part of the idea. Generally there's around 30 or 40minutes of racing.

Feel free to come along, its pretty relaxed, and a great way to start the weekend.
There's only two events this summer left. This friday, and the friday night two weeks away.

This week there's going to be a mass start and a fun loop or two through Kurrajong.
