NSW Snowboard & boots hire

Hey all,

Getting ready for the annual trip to Perisher again this year, and looking at the options for snowboard & boots hire.

Previous years I have gone with Rebel sports, mainly due to their cheap prices and ease of ordering. However, the last time I hired there I was far from satisfied with the kit, and now I am looking at other options.

I am looking to pick up from Jindy, and want decent kit. I only get about one trip down a year, so I want quality gear (good brands, newish to new kit), and I am not too concerned about the price as a result. I am intermediate to advanced, medium hieght/weight (looking for a 155 board by memory).

Larry Adler seem to have a good option, however it is for Rad Air boards and HBS boots; I haven't heard any of these brands before, and was wondering if any boarders out there can comment on this kit?

Are there any hire places in Sydney or Jindy that other people can recommend? If so, names and websites please.

Any other options people can think of? I am not keen to buy gear, as I get to use it so rarely that it doesn't make economical sense....

Thanks all.

anywhere is jindy tends to be pretty good. usually i hire in canberrar though so i can't be of any help there :( sorry. however, if you have the time, make sure you do go to a couple of shops and try and get the best kit possible.. even if you do pay a small premium for it. (if you are in canberra, try belconnen ski and board and).

also, when you hire, ask to see the stuff you are getting and if it isnt up to your standards, send it back and ask for a different brand or just a board in better cond. most places will understand and help you out

Don't go to Larry Adler if you want a board. They specialize in skis and boards are just a 'if we must' kinda thing.

If you are going to Perisher, I work in Rental/Repair at Thredbo sports so can't really help, drop in to ESS up the back of Nugget's Crossing or T2R in the old Town Centre. Both shops are snowboard specialists and you will be served by snowboarders so they'll know what to hook you up with.

Hey Dougy,
Thanks for that.
Do you have the full name for T2R?
How about Natural High in Nuggets?

Any other comments guys?

T2R is time to ride snowboards.(used to be barts). You can go to ESS in paramatta to do your fitting and ordering then pick up in jindy.

Forgot about Natural High. They are a good bunch of guys and have a lot of top end Burton boards if you want to go that way.

I have been hiring from a shop for the past 4 years, and have never once had a problem.

Rythem Snowboards in Berridale.

They are great, they specialise in snowboards AND there is AN AWESOME set of dirt jumps out the back!

They are located in Berridale next to the BP.

I'd recommend them to anyone.

Great service and even better kit.

Aaahhhhhhh, that'd be Rhythm Snowsports in COOMA not Berridale.

they also have Beats Snowsports at the Caltex in Jindy...

And yes, Rhythem Snowsports are good!!

BTW, I don't actually board, but I've always got my kids boards from Sacred Ride, behind the Mitre 10, next to the Ambulance Station.

To be honest I think the ONLY shop in Jindy that doesn't do snowboards is The Eiger Ski Centre....

I ski but always hire in cooma, the gear is just as good as anywhere and the prices are alot cheaper than jindy or on the ski fields. Last year the bloke at the shop even gave me a free days hire.

If you are in southern Sydney? Try Island Aclassic Surf & Snow in Engadine. They are prtetty much a Burton shop. All their gear is pretty new. I have had no problems hiring stuff their in the past.

Hey all,

Thanks again for the replies.

Anyone else rented from Natural High? They seem to have the goods, and are well located.

I will also try ESS in Parra (thanks Mr Sheen).

Anyone else?

I just had a though. If any one reading this is into carving / racing snowboarding I have a bunch of ex-race boards and gear that I would happily sell. Three or four boards, some boots and bindings and other stuff as well. Also if anyone would be keen on a pre season race spec tune and wax of your board or skis let me know. Sorry for the hi-jack ona rampage.

to moderators i dont think his reply should be deleted. but generally to the guy above you should private message offers like this. usually selling stuff that isnt bike related on here is a no no. i hope you find a good hire place! i havent been to the snow since 02. pretty jealous of you right about now.

Bazza, thanks for your reply.
I’m really sorry if I have done something wrong. I actually didn’t mean it as a formal for sale type ad. My first thought was as a service. There is basically no market for these boards in this country (really any country for that matter).
If there is anyone out there who is into carving / racing PM as I have so much stuff that just sits in the garage and does nothing. I have actually given away boards and other stuff in the past to people who are into carving just to see it used. I’m really not trying to flog 2nd hand snowboards and gear here.
If anyone is interested in how to tune snowboards and skis let me know, I’m embarrassed  to say that it’s actually a hobby of mine and I have so much excess wax and all the kit for tuning, I would love to share the love with others into this sport.
