It depends on whether you have horizontal or vertical drop-outs, how many teeth your rear cog has and how long your chain stays are.
The best method to find out will be trial and error.

so moving up from a 32t up front to a 36t and on a hardtail single ring set up. how many more links do you guys think ill need or will it not matter that much if i stay with the same length i am currently on?

Four teeth equal 4 links. However chain only wraps around roughly half the chainring so 2 links (1").

Unless your current setup is on the really short side, I'd leave it.

i have vertical dropouts with a 11-32t. so really 2 links should be just right?the bikes a giant filter if that helps
