Prescription riding glasses

It's gunna vary depending on your eyesight correction needs - I started needing glasses for reading in my mid 40's, hardly used them for the first couple of years but now at 56 I wear multifocals all the time because it's easier than taking them on and off. I have to wear safety glasses at work, mine are photo chromatic and I find them great for MTBing.
I could ride without them but if I had to fiddle with something on the bike I'd be struggling to see fine details properly.
I also have a pair of Bolle prescription goggle inserts from my last job where I had to wear mono goggles a fair bit, and I reckon they would go ok in a pair of MTB goggles which I don't currently have.

My riding glasses are some Oakley sunnies via OPSM that aren't riding glasses... because they are also my driving glasses.

In other news, whatever works, that's easy to source, that is cheap, that you can afford to kill and that fits.

I got a pair of Oakley Flaks for the fact they are comfortable and don't fog up when riding. I wear them for work, riding, driving, shopping, weddings, funerals, TikTok, Instagram, and any other superfluous activities. The prizm lenses are ace.

I literally just use my regular everyday glasses - Thats XC not "knarly" stuff - just make sure they are single vision lenses not multifocal would be my suggestion

Biggest problem I found with prescription glasses is that they are flat glass, and I don't feel like I have the peripheral vision that I was used to so have gone down the route of wearing contacts with my original riding glasses when doing active sports. I have found contacts challenging to get used to, but they do offer much better range of vision compared to my prescription sunglasses. If you do try them, different brands will feel better or worse depending on the individual.

I got my eyes lasered and that fixed me for distance. Drop into an Optometrist and get them looked at and see what your options are. My wife is a store manager at OPSM so she could probably get you a deal.

I now struggle up close now, like when putting in new brake pads and putting the pin actually through the hole in the pads. I do have reading glasses, and I really should use them more.

I had contacts for a few years, but my eyes ended up rejecting them along with hay fever symptoms and it just made them to irritable to deal with.

Contacts also depend on the shape of your eyeball. No dice for me because mine aren't round.
Same goes for laser surgery. Too much Astigmatism and they can't do it. An Optometrist will be able to help find a good solution.

They make contacts specifically for astigmatism. They are great.
Are they the hard type? I remember something about the two types of lenses, and I thought the hard type is the one that can shape your eyeball to the correct roundness.🤔

Nah soft single use disposable type. I only use them for MTB and moto riding. Mine are identical script to my normal glasses.

Thankfully I'm 100% comfortable with glasses, and at the moment my eye aren't that bad so I can wear just normal sunnies.

Although I have just recently changed to wearing my prescription glasses for riding in low light, and close in work is a little uncomfortable 🤔
