Quality 1/2" pedals for kids?

So I want to upgrade the junk on the end of my son's cranks (they're supposedly referred to as pedals, but that would be an insult to pedals in general). Looked everywhere for a 1/2" axle pedal made from alloy that isn't a huge BMX platform with spikes. Anyone got any suggestions?

Way back, before the dawn of time, I used to go through a set of pedals every couple of weeks. They were shit pedals and killed them mainly from pedal strikes. This was on my bmx. Eventually the oldies got sick of replacing the pedals so I got what was probably the first version of Shimano DX. They lasted the rest of my bmxing days. The spikes weren't long but long enough to rip up the bottoms of my thongs (riding footwear of choice back them). Don't think I shredded my shins on them. I think those pedals had an odd sized axle. Maybe you could track some of these down?
