Read the wiki on starting downhill, but I'm wondering...

...what clubs around Melbourne run 'club' races, i.e. races that aren't part of the state champs, such as might provide for a low-profile entry to downhilling? I've checked the ones I know about (GMBC, FTF) and no dice...

Thanks.

Try club mud. They put on a series at Ballarat called 'King of Ballarat' during winter which is very layed back. Most guys (and gals) use it as a kind of pre-series warm up. Its a great way to meet heaps of racers and get a few race runs under your belt. No-one takes it too seriously (well, mosy dont) so theres no pressure/nerves etc. The tracks are short, its cheap to enter... win win.

It seems there is only 1 club race a year. This year was FTF at Eildon, don't think there was one last year, year before that was Youies.

Your best bet is the Buller Cup. Great weekend of races that pits beginners against beginners, advanced against advanced. 2 race runs and the person with the closest time difference wins. you don't have to be quick to win this.
