hi, i recently figured out how to replace seals and the oil in my rear shock, by using the manual on the internet, does anyone know what type of oil it would be though because in the manual it just says oil but it doesnt state what type or density eg. 5 wt, would anyone know what type of oil is supposed to go into a manitou 6 way swinger,

cheers, pat

Have a look and a read here. http://www.peterverdonedesigns.com/bikesuspension.htm
One thing that you need to know is that oil weight means nothing, it is an old system where they would just weigh the oil. nothing to do with viscosity or temperature changes and it's effect to viscosity (VI).
the standard viscosity test is-
viscosity Cst (centistokes)@40deg.C _____
viscosity Cst @100deg.C _____
viscosity index (VI) is how the viscosity is effected by temperature.
Rear shocks need a high VI number, around the 300VI is very good.
