Riding shorts

Howdy.
Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, I'm posting from work so I don't have a lot of time to sit around and search for threads.

Currently I just ride in demin MOS phats (ie: plain black raver pants - I like baggy) cut off about 4 inches below the knee.
Purely because I struggle to find things I like.

I find them way, way too hot to ride in during summer (otherwise I am pretty content during winter), and they're a bit heavy... especially when sweat starts to set in, or it rains mid-ride.

I'm wondering if anybody has any suggestions for riding shorts that are both baggy, and a bit below the knee, which aren't too flimsy and won't just tear the first time they make contact with the ground (if ever), that won't wear out super fast.

Preferably plain, or mostly plain black... a small design or logo is okay depending on what it is.

I am super picky when it comes to clothing.
I know literally nothing about what is good or worthwhile when it comes to riding attire, so I come to you, fellow RB'ers! :)

I will look at all suggestions, but would prefer that they're available from CRC, Wiggle, MBD, T7, TBSM, etc.

What do you find comfortable, and wear while riding?

Thanks in advance. :)

EDIT: I just realized I put this in parts n stuff ('What should I buy?' - still relevant yeah?).
Feel free to move it if necessary, Mr. Mods.

Why don't you go and buy a pair of DH/FR shorts?
Raver pants cut off 4inches below the knee sound like the most ridiculous things to ride in. Why do you want them so far below your knee???

Check out some TLD Moto shorts, Sombrio make some longer ones if that really is your cup of tea.

Endura humvee are longer yet still light and comfy. Fox ranger are about knee length, comfier, but maybe too short for you.

For summer ventilation, nothing beats wearing a kilt!

As for shorts that will suffice for your needs (loose, light and long) go the Foxt Sgt shorts - you can pick them up from about $45 (pushys.com.au). I am an ex raver, I understand your needs :)

Moorey - I was referring to the older model with the embroidered pocket. This is the new model, but at that price!

Well that's kind of the plan, I just don't know what's good.
As for my current riding attire, it might sound ridiculous, but I just ride in my every day clothing.
Now I'm riding more and more, I'd like something that's going to be more comfortable for this particular activity.

But thanks for your concern.

Thanks everybody for your suggestions, I will look at them all when I get home in an hour or so. :)

thats an interesting juxtaposition.
Now that i've got the cattiness out, I've been a big fan of the fox rangers i'm wearing. And a riding mate of mine swears by his ground effect gear, but it did develop a few holes after a recent tumble

My favourite shorts are the Specialized trail short.. But they don't seem to make it anymore.
Seems like some still have them in stock.
Overseas though.

So far I think I like these Fox Sergeant shorts in black the most.

Though it might be a bit hit and miss... it's hard to make a solid decision without trying some on.
I suppose if I get some I can always sell them off as pretty much new if I try them on and they're not for me.

Long story short... I had the trail shorts but after 3yr were well worn.. Purchased some fox shorts but found em too short. Purchased some other ones online but to big. Ended up finding a shop with old stock and got the specialised ones again. Was able to sell the others that didn't suit. Hard when buying online though.

I bought a pair of Endura Humvees and liked them so much I bought another pair. Look a bit fancy in the pictures but the black ones are pretty plain. Heaps of pockets in good spots too. Very tough taken lots of crashes, do have vents but get hotter than more lightweight shorts.
