S-works demo 8

Have just recently bought a 2014 carbon sworks demo 8 with the ohlins shock in it. I noticed that their was a fraction of movement in the top shock bolt/bushing that mounts it to the frame. So I took it back to place of purchase and they had the bushings replaced but it still is there. I know that there is lateral/twist movement designed into these shocks but the play that I have is in the same direction of the shock. Was wondering if there is an acceptable tolerance for such play or should something like this be zero movement? Thanks for any feedback.

Good move taking it straight back to the place of purchase!!

Working in a shop, toooooo many times people go "Oh yeah, found some movement in my linkage, came onto it with the 1/2" drive and breaker bar, now it's broken, can I get warranty?"

Should not be any movement at all! Should be super solid, we all love a tight rear end!

Most important thing, do not ride it loose! Nothing flogs out gear quicker than riding it too loose or too tight.

Get it checked out, torque all bolts to spec, and if it has new bushing but still movement.... Maybe manufacturing fault? Check it out! Have worked at a specialised shop, the big S are normally pretty good with warranty!

Good luck!

Normal

I have a new demo also.

Ohlin's has a roller bearing in the shock mount. It is the shock responding to the torsion flex from the coil. You won't stop the 'movement' you mentioned.

It's not actually movement, if you place your fingers over the bush you shouldn't feel any movement.

The shop and or specialized have been pretty good about it, they have replaced the bearing no questions. But on getting it back and taking it for 4 short runs the movement (up and down, not a twist movement) was back. They are now looking further into.

I was unsure of if there was a tolerance for play, so yeh it didn't do a thing except tighten it to manufactures torque specs, glad I did

I've got the same issue my with my 2013 demo. Came brand new out of the box with play in the linkage from the front shock mount, got onto Cane Creek about it and was told that a little bit of play was fine and wasn't an uncommon thing. Also had it it looked at and fixed for about 2 runs until it went straight back to how it was. My mate has had the same with his DB as well, so probably not just an issue solely with the Ohlins. Interested to hear what the culprit is. :thumb:

Sorry bit of a grave dig.

Does anyone have a diagram with the torque specs for a 2013 Demo? I'm about to pull mine apart and re-build it. Before I do, I'd like the recommended specs.

Thanks to anyone that can point me in the right direction.

Try getting the owner manual from the site, generally has recommended torque setting in it.....

Thanks guys. I looked at that manual last night and didn't find it adequate. It doesn't seem to have the linkage/pivot specs which is what I'm really after.

With a bit more Googleing, I found a table with torque specs for S-Link Frame, S-Link Seatstay and S-Link Clevis, but there is no picture to know exactly what area they are referring to. I'm a bit of a numpty..... I need pictures! Haha!
