Shock Question

Am I able to put a shock with same eye to eye length but larger stroke length on a bike? What will happen if i was to do this? The current shock I've got is 215mm eye to eye with 2.5 stroke and change to one that has a 2.8 stroke. I don't think its possible but want to check.

What frame do you have? Providing that extra travel or stroke length doesnt foul parts of swingarm/rear triangle etc with main frame it should be able to work

its for my mates norco savage (7" travel) it has a manitou metal at the moment but was looking at a fox vanilla rc
