single speed

hello all i am thinking of converting my DJ into single speed. I currently have a chain guide and am wondering will i need to take that off for single speed? i have noticed all single speed bikes around here dont have it
any help will be appreciated thanks.

According to this thread you can even use your chainguide as a tensioner. It might pay to expand your search key words and see what else you can find. SS questions come up every week and there is a wealth of information to be had, for example the thread I've linked is only 2 weeks old so there are plenty of people in the same boat.
