Think the front worked loose, lifted and then pulled out of the holder - its a clamp thing not one that goes over the top of the down tube. From the front \0/ so it can be pulled out if theres enough force...

Gee, recon thats a first. Had a thule 501 as you describe for 10 years, road bikes, bmx bikes, downhill, jump, MTB, interstate trips and all. Not a moment.

Could it be the old one about workman and their tools?

Glad I wasnt travelling behind on my motorbike.
