Well it's come time to sell my loyal trail bike that I've had for about 4 years. This bike has been a brilliant trail bike and has never let me down. Will be sad to see her go but I just don't have the room for more than a few bikes, and it's just a little too big for my better half to ride. =|
For those unsure, EVP is Intense's version of Santa Cruz's VPP (Virtual Pivot Point) system and the ride is very similar. The EVP system rides pretty plush, but is nicely communicative and accelerates hard when you ask it to. It climbs incredibly well either seated or standing, with no evidence of bob - just grip! The geometry encourages both confidence and manoeuvrability (low BB, short rear end, medium cockpit, good trail headangle [with Pike & large headset] @ ~68.5 degrees). With the 4-way Swinger shock it also has a good rising rate at the end stroke to resist bottoming out, whilst remaining plush on the big hits when needed.
The frame itself was bought off a forum member with the 4-way Swinger shock and Push monolink already installed. The monolink adds heaps of stiffness compared to the original factory 2-piece link, to the point where Intense themselves used the same monolink design on its later models. I slowly built the frame up to my liking over the course of about a year, substituting original/fill-in parts for better parts over that time. It has also just had a full Platinum Service ($269 + parts) at Brookvale Bike Factory which involved a full strip-down and rebuild. At this time they also replaced all cables & bleed the brakes.
For those wondering about sizing, I am 6'/184cm tall and find the medium (19" seat tube) a great size. Good amount of stand over, nice slightly compact cockpit (70mm stem), and sharp handling for dominating the singletrack.
