Sram Road Rear Mechs For Mtb ?

Have any farkiners tried using SRAM ROAD rear mechs such as the RIVAL for MTB ?

( AKA Shimano 105/Ultegra )

Sorry to intrude into a NSW forum.
Why bother with a SRAM road mech, just run a short cage X9/X0 for the same effect.
Running road mechs was an old school trick that is outdated with the current availability of short MTB derauilers, the only road part you should need to run is a cassette!
