This would be the very first set of wheels I've ever bought. Not sure how much there is to it.

Was looking at this as a rear:

and this as a front:

Using the conversion kits to get 15mm through axle on the front

Wasnt going to bother upgrading the rear system to a 142x12mm through bolt, cause its another $100 for the parts from Giant, and I not to recently bought a new DT Swiss 142mm QR skewer.

What are peoples thoughts on upgrading to these, and whats the deal with cassette body on the hub? Is that just the grove types that the different cassetttes require to hook onto the hub? What if I want to upgrade to a XT 11 speed later on, will I need a new hub?

I should mention my style of riding is mostly trail riding, such as manly dam, ourimbah, Old Man Valley, Red Hill for anyone who knows these places.

Im not into huge jumps, but I do like to push it here and there sometimes and i'm not a super awesome rider, so cant guarantee landings are gonna be smooth.

Most people say Arch will be fine, but i've read reviews of someone denting his Arch's at same weight as me 75KG.

Currently my PCX2 wheelset has dents in lots of places.

Arch is more than strong enough at 75kg, but if worried, 160g off extra for flow is peace of mind. Cheaper for the set on merlin at the moment, I believe.

the FLows are not only stronger but also wider than the Arch which will give bigger tyre volume and more grip, less squirm, so if you aren't trying to shave grams I suggest get the Flow EX.

flows main benifit over arch is width 25mm internal compared to 21mm for arch ex.

flows will be stiffer side to side and will stay more true BUT there will not be much difference between rims when it comes to dents. if you are hitting edges harsh with low tyre pressure both rims will dint.

if you want a rim that wont dint you are going to use a heavier rim or try something with a stiffer alloy like WTB and spank etc are using with their scandium doped alloys.

stans have good tubeless ready rims with a good stiffness/width/weight balance but these days the other manufacturers have caught up and are using better grades of alloys with more resistance to dinting.

Interesting information. Thanks for posting this. I will look into these other ones. Has anyone else had experience with any other brands that sit in the same price range as the stans? Flows may be better for me, i'm not really a weight weenie, but I also do ride up alot of hills, although only as a necessity of belting down them.

Forums were commenting that the KOM version isnt very good for dent protection. The frequency range which is burlier, runs same weight as Stan Flows.
