i've dropped my stem/bars down as low as they can go... this is the g-o- for a DH is it not? I'm really not good enought to notice the difference. I'm happy with it low, but before i go the chop on the steerer tube, any thoughts?

Lower front end = lower centre of gravity & more traction, through being able to put more weight on the front wheel when needed.

Might notice a change on the really steep stuff at first, but you'll just adapt after a few runs.

Pros outweigh cons by far, I say chop away.

Minor consideration: Chopping your steerer to less than about 190mm may affect fork resale chances. A bit.

Oh and post this sort of thing in Parts n Stuff next time ;)

Hey antstep,

The boys I ride with got me to lower my front end, and I love it. I'm going to go even lower with flat bars too ! Don't have to cut the steerer - you could just keep the spacers up the other way on top of the stem. Especially if you ever want to sell your forks, its good not to have them cut down.
Keep your options open - but yeah lower front end = more control going downhill, puts you in a better riding possition on the steep stuff ;)
