stiff shifters

I feel as if I am going to break my thumbs shifting onto my large cog on my commuter (Shimano Acera 8 speed 11-28). I have just replaced the cables and lubed everything up, but it is still happening. I find that if I loosen the cables any further, I can't get the range.

Any suggestions?

Actually, having read a couple of other posts, could a bent hanger have anything to do with it (not that any is visible).

Can you pull the cable normally (as in 'pluck it' from the frame?) If you have only replaced the cables, there could be crap in the housings. Otherwise, there might be something inhibiting the derailleur form proper function.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Have replaced housing.

I think the limit screws are fully adjusted as I can manually push the derailleur into position.

Haven't had a fiddle with the pinch bolt yet.

Also, when I change, it really jolts into gear. Not a smooth transition. Is that adjustment or just the difference between Shimano Acera and LX.
