Click on the bottom photo. That bit between the tyre and the bottom bracket is the chainstay yoke.

The (usually machined or forged) piece of metal that attaches the chainstays to the bottom bracket. It's a pretty critical part of the design when you're trying to build a bike with short chainstays.

I think we'll be seeing alot of Hayes HFX-9's flooding the market. From what people have said about them, I don't think they'll survive the rigors most people will be wanting to put this bike through.
