Suggested Geelong area rides

Hey.
So I've recently moved to Geelong and I'm keen to hit some local trails, but with the You-Yangs out of action, there appears to be significantly less scope to ride down here than before, though I am getting to know Forrest better.
Any suggestions for XC riding spots (besides Forrest) would be much appreciated?
I'm aiming for 1-1.5 hour radius from Geelong ideally.
Cheers!

Haven't ridden them but there is plenty around Anglesea, I'm sure some of the local boys which reside through here will be able to give you a heads up.

1.5 hours would get you to Ballarat and Djerriwarrah near Melton and almost to Woodend (Geelong Bacchus Marsh, Gisborne Woodend) - certainly to Blackwood and Daylesford for the Great Dividing Trails. Local bike shops would be able to help.

Definitely Anglesea - search the forums for the Surfcoast thread or ring Southern Exposure. Apollo Bay has private trails as well.

Not sure going west of Geelong.

The Bellarine Rail Trail is always a popular place for a ride.

also here is a link from the Ballarat area club

Great info! ^

I would love to explore the West a bit more, anything linking Apollo Bay to Forrest would be good to know, I'd like to make a big day of climbing up, then descending back down.

There is a regular ride we do that leaves from Forrest... lunch in Lorne, then back to Forrest, never once touching bitumen.
Keep an eye out for our next one

Thanks Norm! Where is that posted? That's exactly what I want to do. Getting ready for the 6 hour again. ;)

I was down in Geelong for the Road Worlds last year; You Yangs is DEFINITELY worth the trip out.

Check the Otway Odessey website and check the route maps out. 1st stage is always AB to F and usually(always?) up Wild Dog Creek Rd.

Crikey. Thanks for the great response. Norm and Ron... Wow!
I'll have to have a look down the coast a bit, there seems to be some info on that in other threads as someone said.
There was some debate regarding the ridability of Anakie in some other threads because it's on private property? Do you know what the deal is with that Ron?

There are plenty of tracks in the Brisbane Ranges National Park, but am not sure on stuff outside of the park.

The only tracks in the Brisbane Rangers you can ride are management roads,so there is bugger all single track.

Hey. Just wondering what the story is with Djerriwarrah? where is it, is there much there? XC trails or what? What difficulty?
Cheers
