Switching to trials.....

Ive been into street for a while but ive found ive been doing more trials sort of riding than street. My current bike is a norco manik and i think it weighs about 16kg and has a big heavy set of forks on the front. With this in mind ive been thinking about getting a trials bike. Im just wondering how much of an improvment i could expect in terms of height and distance of bunny hops/pedal kicks and that sort of thing on a trials bike compared to my current bike.

there would be a massive difference between a trials pecific bike and a downhill freeride hardtail the trials would make things ALOT easier imo

expect bunnyhops to dissappear for the first part, as a bike with a higher bottom bracket rise will make them feel horrible.

everything else - insane improvement.

you can start learning on your manik, just buy a rigid fork for it and try to lighten it up a bit. once you can do the most basic trials skills, then look towards buying a secondhand bike off here or www.observedtrials.net

you should be able to find a bike for mega cheap, like anywhere from $300-$700.

Apart from the obvious i.e. Size, difference between 26" and 20" wheels/tyres, what is the advantage or disadvantage of either. I've been enjoying watching the vids but can't figure it out

Cheers

20" (mod bikes) are better for static power moves because they are lighter. 26" (stock bikes) are much smoother and more fluid though for doing more streety stuff.
Check out some video's of Dangerous Dave Herr(20") and Adam Kelly (26") to see the vast difference in styles for each type...
