have to wonder where he'll turn up next as payment for services rendered whilst in office
You would think the lure an ex PM's pension and all of the travel goodies tacked on top of it would be all you would need to see out the rest of your days in comfort. He may even get all mamil'ed and buy an eBike then head off to the Nasho.

Oh he has debts...the sort money can't repay. Plus the size of his ego wouldn't suit retirement.

The stage 3 tax cuts are pretty unfair. I'm not against cuts but a person on not quite 4 times the salary seems to be getting over 7 times as much in the hand.

Pretty much, you forgot negative gearing investments :)
Takes away a chunk of the incentive to try to do well for yourself too. Why bother....

They just can't help themselves meanwhile the general public plebbage are always happy fight tooth and nail about who is best. They all suck arse and a shame none really give a damn once they are in.

Hopefully they all get replaced by AI.

While they divide us with race, sexual genders and religious differences the elite keep plundering.
And no one realizes it's going on.

Turn the burning torches against the pitchfork bearers and they have won

so many tax minimisation schemes... (11ty million fancy utes in last few years?)

what is the "effective tax rate of the rich"? Sure as hell isn't >30%

BUT.. you inspired me to (procrastinate and) nerd out a bit.... 'cos i hadn't really paid too much attention to all the hoohar...
(data and rates from here)

Note:
- the LTIO is still current.
- the Stage 1/2 LMITO stopped in '22-23 tax year
- Stage 3 starts next year ('24-25)

tables with numbers if you care..

this paper has indexed comparison between 17-18 and 24-25..
basially saying that if we'd indexed bracket creep over that time period... for people in a band from 70-120K makes basically zero difference

Ppl on 70K owe about $11,600 basic income tax (down $1600 over that time period)
on $45K, next year will owe $4767 tax, but in 17-18 would have paid $5847

none of this includes other tax offsets like family tax benefit A/B etc ( and education tax refund of ~$400-800 per kidlet)

In the beginning the universe was created. This has mad e a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I'm sort of neutral on the tax cuts as someone who will benefit a bit but not much. But far more annoyed that almost none of the discussion has looked at actual tax rates and how they've moved effectively since last adjusted. Yes, people earning near the 180k limit will benefit but how much have each group been affected by rises over time.almost zero analysis looks at that, rich save a bit equals bad. Have they paid more over the last 7 years? Who knows.

It seems a very one dimensional discussion right now. No government will commit to tax brackets that move with Inflations, or even with average wage growth, lest they miss that chance to offer tax cuts and appear the good guy .now a flat rate from 32k to 200+ is frankly ridiculous but what is fair? 45% from? 90+? 38 from 120? That's where we should be looking but thats not been a point in any media discussion

call me a cynic but...it seems no coincidence the the LNP put in the stage 1/2 LMITO, ending in June 22, when the election was May 22.
(would they have continued with them if they won election? or crept the brackets?)

The Stage 3 cuts were probably just part of the future pension plan for his mates/family, timed to either hurt Labor later if they lost election, or benefit their buddies regardless :p

is funny to hear LMP now framing this as a "broken promise" if labor alters them.. when it was LNP that comitted us to them.
They just don't want to provide media bites saying that they support the STG3 cuts for their mates...

as for what's fair... this is just tax on "taxable income"... not what ppl actually earn... this minor cut is surely peanuts compared to the value of normal tax avoidance??
