The Plight of The Bicycle Mechanic

An excellent mechanic is hard to find. I have found one. He has a lot of experience and has been working on my bikes for quite a few years. I drive about 25ks past a number of shops to take my bikes to him because he knows what he's doing and he does it well. I'm not really concerned about what he charges because I trust him with my steeds, I know he won't charge me unreasonably, and there has never been anything he couldn't do. I am prepared to pay more for the service he offers. It is great value for money.

I guess what you're paid should be proportional to the service, knowledge and ability you can offer.

Hence why you'll find prepubecent McDonald's rejects at a lot of bike shops. Low labour costs=more margin, not cheaper prices.
