Because they are the wrong type of bearing? Were the rollers vertical or hozirontal? Or werse they tapered rollers?Pulled the headset out of the giant today, headset had roller bearings. Any idea why they don't still use them in headsets

Seemed vertical. They seem to still be working fine. Not sure of tapered or not as I have put it back together. Was just curiousBecause they are the wrong type of bearing? Were the rollers vertical or hozirontal? Or werse they tapered rollers?

Yes, exactly like that
Or as I like to call it the 6G position. That's conical, not vertical or horizontal....![]()
Tastes like chicken. What flavour is minty-green paint? Not there yet, but with a few more days in iso I might start licking the stuff off the walls...
If you get some absinthe and spray it on the walls it will taste minty fresh. What flavour is minty-green paint? Not there yet, but with a few more days in iso I might start licking the stuff off the walls...
So do they achieve anything more than being different from norms bearing. They're spherical roller thrusts bearings.
More contact area, balls love to dint the race when over loaded. Longevity is very often traded for light weight and lower costs for all things bicycleSo do they achieve anything more than being different from norms bearing.
Allow me to steer super quick or something

Deep groove ball bearings are cheap, light and a compromise that gets abused. Angular contact ball bearings fix some of that for stuff like headset bearings where there is thrust and radial loads to be contained. Rolling element bearings in the right plane are usually the best option because as link says you can get contact pressures down, ball bearings are a point contact wheras roller bearings are a line. Ish. But it is awkward to get the loading right which is why Henry Timkin was such a genius.More contact area, balls love to dint the race when over loaded. Doesn't matter, you can't taste it anyway! What flavour is minty-green paint? Not there yet, but with a few more days in iso I might start licking the stuff off the walls...
I never lost my sense of taste either Duck. But maybe I never had any to lose......Interestingly, although I reckon it's reduced a bit, I haven't lost my sense of taste. Although a commonly-reported symptom, it doesn't seem to affect everyone.
