I really can't see the point besides being different from everyone else and looking... well.... different. Wouldn't his feet burn up inside his shoes as well due to friction?
pretty sure he straps something to the bottom of his shoe. would only make sense. if you can see it looks like there is a buldge there. its bound to be something.
