New religions and new nationalties are fine with me - just don't try and mix them with other nationalities that people know and enjoy.
Woah woah, come on guys lets not get so carried away.

I ride the M7 cycleway in Western Sydney three/four days a week.
You left out some crucial info! There are always total bogans on there, one night me and my girlfriend almost got wiped out by an out of control (literaly) yz250f doing about 80km/hr and even that seemed pretty normal for the area lololol

To be honest I don't think anyone needs to worry about electric bikes becoming a trend, it's not like vast majorities of people will be able to afford them.

When the day comes that you head out to your local mtb (as in bikes without motors) trail and are confronted with a bunch of fat lazy wankers with no skills tearing up and overcrowding the trails you might eat those words.
If I'm so inept that I'm riding the same trails as these fat lazy skilless wankers then perhaps that would also make me fat lazy skillless wanker? Now if I'm some gun hero with skill to burn it's more likely the trails I'm on won't attract these types.

Anyway, fat lazy wankers just sounds like people shuttling or riding park :D

The reality is that the majority thinks this sport we love so much is just a little odd, and a motor ain't about to change that.

Even Lapierre test rider and racing legend Nico Vouilloz is said to be impressed with the machine, with a single planned test loop turning into three. He's said to be after one to allow both his wife and father to keep pace with him on training rides.
Good use for it.

Really, it's EPO for your bike.

Bit elitist are you mate?
Yep. I'm also addicted to bestiality porn, hence my profile pic.

Sorry sir you aren't allowed to copulate with a mongrel, you are fat, slow and do not possess the necessary animal management skills. Please move on we don't care for your type around here.
?

FFS has anyone here actually looked into this at all? It's still an animal, you still have to mount the f**ker to make it go forward a little quicker.

I ride the M7 cycleway in Sydney three/four days a week. The last week I have twice seen a couple of dorks riding mini-motocross bikes on there. Petrol ones. I had a good laugh.

And not teenagers, they're in their twenties. Dorks.
I don't ride the M7 that much anymore but I have seen the ones you are talking about (and 'dorks' is far to kind a description:frusty::frusty:)

Are you for real? Mountain biking didn't just pop up out of thin air you realise, it evolved from repurposed bikes being used on repurposed tracks.

Hell, just look at the way mountain biking has evolved and is now made up of a shitload of different disciplines. Gravity enduros are a mix of XC and DH, slopestyle is a bastard child of BMX and...well, something, and trials could well be gymnastics for 'special' people who like bikes.

There are very few blank slate innovations in the world; most new things are modifications or new applications of existing ideas. I suppose it is normal for almost all to be met with some sort of resistance, for valid reasons or not.

Yes, but all the variants have one thing in common: motion is propelled by PEDAL POWER and GRAVITY. When you introduce a motor or a jetpack or whatever, you are essentially inventing a 'new' discipline. And that new discipline may not necessarily mix with its predecessors. Pedal power and engines DO NOT mix (IMHO).

These have things in common too: wheels, pedals (remember, they're only pedal ASSIST), dirt tyres etc. You've just made an arbitrary decision as to what is, and isn't, a core principle of riding. Downhillers use shuttle vehicles and chairlifts to get to the top of the hill, and that's all artificial power, no pedalling at all.

I'd probably agree that it's not 'cycling' in the purest sense, but so what? Nobody's forcing anyone to give up their normal MTBs and ride one of these, so why all the hate towards something new, just because it challenges what you accept as the norm?

Maybe there could be issues with trail usage down the track, if electric bikes became very powerful and very common, or maybe there will be no conflict at all and everything will be sweet. Maybe the technology that evolves from these will give birth to awesome little electric motors that you can carry with you as an emergency backup in case you suffer an injury in the middle of nowhere and are stuggling to pedal home. Maybe we'll end up with drive systems that enable people with disabilities to experience our sport where they previously couldn't have. Or maybe they'll just remain a fringe novelty and never really take off.

The point is that none of us really know how this concept could play out, but dismissing something that hasn't had a chance to prove itself either way is pretty close minded.

Thanks Wombat, that was a well though out and sensible response to my hypothetical projection of what this type of bike *might* represent. You're entirely correct in accusing my sentiments as being close-minded. Internet forums are all about a diversity of opinions and I like to think that this represents an example of inclusive responses to a proposed scenario that may well be painting the future of the sport we are all here to discuss.

I want one. Would be sweet to carry a little extra speed through the fast flowy singletrack, and have a little less pain on the uphills.

Very right. I can definitely see the potential complications for trail access if any tech starts to blur the line between bicycle and motorbike, I just hope it doesn't play out that way.

From what understand of bogans it would seem that their literacy skills would be somewhat lacking?
Pot calling the kettle black perhaps?
If I have to explain the error in the following, I rest my case.
Oh god, get off your grammatical high horse precious...

I would ride one in a heartbeat, I just don't think I would survive the sledging from my mates :)

Would be awesome to save your legs going up, so you can have the fun on the down....
