Thomson Dropper Post

Meh. They lost me when they revealed the spy shots showing the cable going up to the saddle.

I'll stick with my LEV.

I would take consistent performance and longevity over having the cable attach at the bottom any day.

Its not really that hard to deal with the cable loop is it?

What he said.

Their Carbon bars look absolutely pornographic though. Seriously, I'm packin' half a chubby just thinking about them.
Shit, im getting rid of anything with thomson written on my bike, i dont want to meet you out at the swamp with a half mongrel...:eyebrows:

Cable appears to be on the side, people have commented that this is a good thing on fox's post so maybe not as bad as it appears. If it proves reliable I'll be all over it - Love Thomson stems, posts etc so hopefully this is a winner

I have had a specialized command post for nearly 3 years, no problems whatsoever, replaced one cable 3 weeks ago, never had to clean it nothing, works perfect all the time, cable on outside i can assure you, keeps it very simple!

It took me years, and half a dozen failed shitty seatposts to finally bite the bullet and buy Thomson. Never looked back, until dropper posts started getting popular. But i felt like I was back to square one in terms of quality and durability.

If this thing is anything like their fixed posts, it'll be the one to get, no matter where the cable is attached.

Is this Thompson's 1st "moving part"? If so, pretty ballzy move IMO... Though I'm sure droppers are eating into their market share so they had to do something. Will be interesting to see how the 1st model is holding up 1-2 years after release.

I think the cable mounted to the base of the post to avoid growth should be one of the compulsory design features they all have...

From Ridemonkey from the company that makes the cartridge in the system...

Robert De Rose said:
In order for the cable to be routed at the bottom, the durability and functionality of the internals would drop. We looked at the different options; and the durability of the cable and it's use in the field was less concerning than the durability and functionality of the internals. The overall systems durability was the driver. So when given the choice of which functional aspect to go with, we choose the cylinder functionality over the cable placement. Their should be a 30.9mm, though the 31.6mm will come out first. Won't be able to make a 27.2mm size as it gets to small to fit all the components in, with the same functional requirements. Also it wouldn't meet the structural requirements at such a small diameter.

This is why the command post works so well, internals will last ages, although nearly 3 years for a cable was excellent durability, after seeing how other brands have performed and worn out in the interest of keeping the cable stationary, dont think its worth it, although the KS posts seem to be pretty good!

I cant fathom how people have problems with the cable - as long as its running along the top tube with cable ties at 2 points, it should always bow out and up - miles away from rubbing the tyre. i can only think it might be a problem for shorter riders on small frames -particularly a 29er, where a cable coming out the back of the seatpost clamp area could conceivably rub the back tyre. Mine never gets within 6" of the tyre and so cable rubbing tyre is an impossibility.

Its the last thing I would consider for a dropper - useability, adjustability, and reliability are surely what we are after.
