I think it's easier to just buy the right frame. You're probably going to run into all sorts of unforseen problems.

They will be unless he changes wheel size - axle height from ground is directly and entirely related to wheel radius and nothing else.
what's a wheel made up of? Are the f & r axles necessarily the same height? Come on d-man!
Is this a riddle?

Are the tyres inflated or flat?
There may be slight variation if different tyres are fitted (fatter front tyre will jack it up a couple of mm over the rear, but it comes back to the earlier point that only changes to the wheel package can affect axle height; anything else will affect the height of the frame between those vertically fixed reference points (which may be moved longitudinally by suspension tweaks, but not vertically).

Why aren't 69'ers more popular? That style of small rear large front works for so many things from moto to porn, why not MTB?

I am indeed. I'm trying desperately to convince myself that my bikes aren't too small for me. The reach is too short, but I'm hoping that the extended wheelbase will make up for that a little bit.

How do you figure that? Reach is a result of main frame geometry; tweaking the end attachments will do the grand total of fuck-all to the main frame geometry.
Conversely, surely increasing wheelbase by slackening the head angle will actually reduce the reach, acheiving the opposite of what the OP is after?

Yes, but unless the steerer extends a fair way above the headset, the difference is going to be minimal.

It still strikes me as trying to fix a problem with a solution to a different problem rather than the one in hand.

You're absolutely right, but I'm willing to try anything before forking out for a new frame. An increase in wheelbase might make the lack of reach more acceptable. Alternatively $3.6k would easily fix the problem.

Is this for your brand new range?

Prob even less when you take a measurement at the bar vs theoretical reach, what BK was getting at (drops the headtube but rotates the front end).

Do it!!
