Track condition monitoring + unauthorised vehicle entry to Jubilee park

Hey guys

Last week I received a phone call from Mark Ready from council who said there were a number of issues with the downhill track that needed to be addressed. We met with him and Graham, a ranger from the council today and they explained these problems in a bit more detail.

Turns out there have been a few complaints on the number of vehicles in Jubliee park with the main one being from a scout group that said they were almost run over by some vehicles with bikes in the back around last week.

Also, they stated that something needs to be done about the last jump at the bottom of the track in order to improve safety along with a few smaller fixes to erosion etc.

In the original agreement with council it was said that there were to be no vehicles in the park apart from when events were on. So just to let you know, there will be no cars to enter Jubilee for maintenence from now on although Mark suggested we could have a council vehicle take any materials into the park for us.However, this will probably not matter anymore because council has changed the locks so our keys do not work anyway (will have to consult council about getting some replacements). We will now also be letting council know about any maintenence days we are planning in Jubilee prior to attending so if something does go wrong in the park council can see when we were down there and thus rule out any links to the club with the issue. As well as this we will also be submitting the maintenence dates on a calender to council.

With regards to the jump at the bottom, we are organising to meet with Graham tomorrow (after xc maintenence) to see what can be done with the bottom jump. Mark and Graham also suggested implementing some twice annual track inspections whereby club members would do a walk down of the track with council to find and resolve any problems.

In general, we need to start working with the council more to ensure the downhill track stays safe and so council isn't liable, we do not keep annoying walkers etc. and to make sure our relationship with the council stays solid.

We will be inviting Mark Ready to the next meeting to formalise the ideas proposed above.

Cheers, Jock

as no vehicles are allowed in now would it be easier to access the xc track now from the bottom if we have to walk , just a thought (posted this on xc build topic to)
