Underage Drinking....

Yeh so the aim is to stop at 6 years then have a break and start again .

I find that at school people will say that they don't drink alcohol at parties or anything because they don't like the effects. But when I see them at parties they will always have a bottle in their hand and be either completely pissed or tipsy. I'm thinking it's pressure, every one else is drinking and they feel left out...

I find it really easy to get alcohol. I know lots of people over 18 and lots of mates who know people over 18 and they can usually get it pretty quickly. I hope they don't make the legal age 21 :(. In Italy at 16 I walked in and ordered a beer at the bar and most young people I saw were drinking pretty responsibly but I don't know whether thats better education or no feeling of being rebelish .

I'm in this thread, might as well contribute something. Personally, although I recognise that it's the easiest, most consistent way of controlling drinking, I don't think it's a system that works very well. I'm 17. I drink lots most weekends and usually end up making a fool of myself in one way or another (I woke up the other morning to find I'd fought my toilet roll holder, ripping it out of the wall). Lots of my friends do it (not why I do it, couldn't care less tbh), most of the time resulting in the same sort of things happening. I turn 18 in 3 months. The way I drink isn't going to change, just the venue I consume the alcohol in, and I don't see myself maturing much in those three months. I'll still get maggot, start fights, vomit on people, kick things and yell unnecessarily but it'll be alright because I'm 18
You'll grow up. Your just going to have a hell of a hard time trying to compared to most.

Raising the age limit isn't going to do squat.

Raising awareness worked pretty darn well in regards to drink driving, so why can't the same be said with underage drinking?

Also, pubs and clubs would suffer, and poor little bartenders like myself will be sacked. This won't make me much of a happy larry =(

My philosophy on drinking:
"Alcohol should only ever be used a social lubricant and never as an escape"

I know not everyone is into drugs, but up until I was 17 it was pretty hard to get alcohol, as I didn't know many people who were 18 and I didn't look old enough until I was about 17. However, when I was at that age, it wasn't that hard to get drugs (well weed, if I had looked for anything else, I dont think it would have been too hard) and it was easier than trying to get alcohol.

Having said that, drugs have a bad reputation, so not everyone will turn to drugs. Just something worth raising though.
Weed is piss easy to get a hold of if you know people. I find it funny that weed is illegal. and cigarettes and alcohol aren't. but I'm not saying you should ban them. because we all know banning things dose not work.

Any way. Ignore me. back to normal programing.

I love how she already looks like a junkie in the first photo.
she was a junkie in the first photo.
she hat already been taking drugs before they started taking pics, i believe she had started rehab, or started attending a place where she could talk about her addiction when they started taking pictures of her.

Ahh, ok. That's pretty interesting. Seen that photo around many times, but never knew anything about it.

Guess you havent heard...

Im stopping completely, been cold turkey for a week now and im even starting to feel better. To EVERYONE out there thinking that they may take it up (DONT!!!), smoking is not cool, its a gay habit that i should have never taken up, it kills you, makes you unfit, extremely unfit, you will loose friends cause of it (I have). It damages your imune system, which makes its alot easier for you to get sick. And i dont know about you, but i hate getting sick and vomiting every week... A completely stupid habbit. Once you start and get hooked it very hard to stop, trust me.

So yeah dom, im stopping, and not going to even think about putting a cigg near my mouth again.
all this talk makes me want to have one, Thanks:D

Yeah that's interesting. A girl that i'm really close with is 16, and she's just finished year 12 this year. Every weekend she's out partying with us, yet she's aware of her age and acts slightly more responsible.

I didn't really have anywhere to go with that I guess, just got me thinking if being in an advanced year is indicative of a maturity that the rest of us lack, rather than just academic ability.

sometimes it can just be because of when you were born right?
either way, one of my best friends turned 15 this year, year 10, and she is stupidly "alchoholic" she relies on grog way too much to have fun, and even socialise with people she doesnt know, which is odd becasuse shes one of the most outgoing people i know.
but alcohol has lead her to many sick nights, with plenty of vomiting, screwing over friends cheating on people etc.
really when you look at it, the minute amount ouf fun she had for a couple of hours doesnt look like much when she has to win back trust from people and spend the rest of the night and half of the next day throwiing up.

I'm 16 year 6 months. Things are odd for me, since I'm supposed to be in grade 10, yet I'm in grade 11. When people were my age (last year) they got drunk on very rare occassions, but often going to parties and drinking.

However, even though I'm now that age, every weekend all my mates go out to parties - I've never been drunk, but it's odd - the pressure to go to parties and get wasted is pretty high.

Personnaly (and I'm an odd one!) I'd rather have a good night, go to bed at midnight and go riding on sunday, rather than complaining at 1pm on Sunday that I have a headache and can't be bothered.

Just my view - I'm in no hurry!

pretty much on the same boat as you, most of the guys at my school go out and get smashed frequently, but meh, waste of my money that has much better places to go ;)

im 16 and iv never been drunk. I go to parties and get pressured into it but i can see the point of getting shit faced..im like other people here who actually want to ride the next day without throwing up and feeling like crap. I find much more fun things to do at parties then stand around and get pissed

To be honest, i read this thread and think that some of you are very narrow minded.. It IS possible to go out, get drunk, have a good time, and still feel good in the morning.. It depends on so many other things. But ehh, each to their own.

To be honest I didn't understand this point when I created this thread. Funny how things change over time....
