i had an old bike called a peak and it was pretty much a k-mart bike and my mate had the same one and we used to go out on big rides through the state forest and just hucking off whetever thing we could find back then we didnt even know the term hucking was, we found a mountain with a fire trail on it and rode down that and there was just heaps of rock plates so it sort of like rock gardens. after a while the peaks broke and i needed a new bike and i wanted something that would last and you could jump it and my mate had an old DH bike i still dont know what it is i think it was and old norco and it was the coolest looking thing i had ever seen after convincing my mate to sell it to me i had it for about 6 months doing the same thing then my mate got a gt and i started reading australian mtb we started building single track and then went to a state track and then i wanted to race ever since that.

My now wife got me started into MTB, just some $600 XC bike to start with but broke it to many times and then got a Avanti Manic and that was all good for a few years and started to do runs with some friends and decided that i need a DH bike, so now i have a Mongoose ECD

i started riding and racing XC because that was what my dad was into, i did that from about the age of 7-14. them one day me and my mate decided to do our local DH track but walked most of it. from then on we went up and did the easy DH track just about every day. a group of us started riding and all of them had a new shiny DH bike exept me so i saved up went out and bought one of my own, i now try to ride DH everyday. i still race XC and going strong.

I'll just reply the same as I did in the other thread. ;) http://www.farkin.net/forums/showthread.php?t=136324

Where I lived as a kid/early teens, backed onto National Park strewn with firetrails. We'd be up there all the time on bikes exploring. That was 15-20 years ago. I've just got back into it again this year after a loooong absence when my mates started getting into it.

I was borrowing my mate's bikes for a while until I was convinced I was into it enough to save up some $$ for a bike of my own. Got myself a Heckler now and absolutely loving it...Ready to step it upp a bit and start entering some events.

I was a fat bastard (114kg, now 85)
+1...but I wasn't that fat!!!!! Nor am I yet that much lighter! Good work Maxwolfie.

Plus I was watching Drop in one day! Looked like fun riding the shore in Canada.
I have now ticked that off my "Bucket List".

Went to Japan in 2006. Saw their cool looking city bikes and thought "I might give that a go". Got given an old 12 speed steel roadie, which I loved. Rode to school, rode saturday mornings, rode just for the hell of it.

A couple of the mountain bikers at school saw me riding the roadie, and started talking to me about riding, and came to mountain biking, and asked me if I wanted to have a crack at it.
Next weekend, we were up the hill. Matt-D8 and dh1, riding an Avanti D8 and a Giant AC respectively, and me on an old V-brake Specialized Rockhopper. Despite numerous stacks and sections that scared the Bejesus out of me, I loved it.

Now, two years after getting into riding, I've got a new roadie, a reasonable mountain bike and my sights set on lots more bikes. I'm thinking now, after having got the roadie, next is a DH/AM bike, then a wet weather commute bike... Beyond that, well, we'll see.

my uncle invited me on a ride at cootha one week end
so during the week we went to the lbs to get my kent fixed up and they told me it wasnt worth it and i took home a $400 avanti blackthunder instead.
My uncle took me on a ride that weekend. we only rode up then down lantana trail and i was instantly hooked. i have since gotten my younger brother into it and my dad is now hooked to both road and mtb
that was about 3 years ago now

Bought a skate mag in 1997 that had an issue of AMB packaged with it - featured the amazing Yuri Minki and the Santa Cruz Tazmon I think. kept riding my gemini crapper in the woods with a mate, not really paying attention to what was going and started doing 'freeride shit bro' after seeing kranked 3. Rode XC for a bit and gave that up, and now I use bikes more as cheap, efficient transport than anything else. Still ride trails though.

well how i got into mtb was when i went to the local bmx track on my good old huffy bmx (which now is my tramp bike:eek:),

i started riding when i was like 9 and rode and rode and staked ALOT, then i noticed i got quite good at it over the years, then i finally decided to buy a decent bike at 13 years (now 14) and only got that this year...and guess what i think i have improved in my riding skills...even more

but yer that's my story

Mine was a weird one actually..

Was searching for Porn on the internet, found some good stuff but an email popped up saying i had won a free Mountain bike.
It was a scam thing, was a ghetto huffy looking bike from K-mart. But on the side it had small little flash vids and Links to other Ranges of Mountain Bikes.
So i clicked in and found some nice Mountain Bikes. Disc Brakes, suspension and all that. I thought a Specialized Hardrock was a sick bike.

So i got myself a Specialized Hardrock for my first bike, had already been doing Xc on my Repco and got into the world of FreeRide.
Those Flash vids got me into building my own Freeride Park behind my nans house and off we went.

All my local best mates liked the Idea from trying abit of Northshore construction and addapt into the Freeride scene.

Went from a:
05 Specialized Hardrock Sport
06 Giant Dh Comp. Custom built.
07 Ironhorse Sunday Elite. Custom Built.

Thats my story :D

I got into it for the opportunity for ostentatious displays of wealth. I got out of it when I realised my ambition exceeded both my ability and wallet.

well, i have always loved riding my bike. as soon as the training wheels were off i was jumping gutters, riding no hands that sort of thing. as i got older i only ever had bmx bikes, i rode jumps, it was sweet. then my first mtb came, it was a giant rincon (now know as the giant ring hole). i was stoked i had suspension so i started rinding harder, got myself some shinnies and gloves and went harder again. the bike finally shat itself and i got a cannondale gemini dh for my birthday and have beenriding harder ever since.

cheers!!

What got me into riding

What go me into riding? My new brother-in-law is a committed rider having done well at racing and his sons are very keen riders too. He upgraded my sisters road bike and she gave it to me. I started riding it to work and some training rides and he invested in the enthusiasm he saw with getting me a really good mountain bike. I loved going off road and the love affair started.

several reasons,

1)My expanding waistline and a need to get fit and healthy

2)My love of dirt bike riding and the fact all my mates are married and have had there testicles removed placed in a jar on their wives bed side table, so with no one to ride with MTB's seemed like the next best thing.

3)Dislike of riding on the road due to dick heads and dangerous drivers.

Pretty similar as Donaldo and further enhanced by Lockieoc (Drop in);

Initially I needed to get fit, so I thought I'd get a MTB (1st bike in 20 years!) - a Giant Rincon. Then after seeing "Drop-In" I became hooked. I love it now and try to ride every day. I now have a XTC 2 for road and light XC and a 2008 Trance X1 for heavier trail/XC stuff. Can't stop me now!:D:D
