Wheel building in Sydney - ?

Hi All,

I've once again snapped a spoke. This is the 5th or 6th in 6 months of ownership. 3rd since the 25th Jan.

The rim is a Alex TD24 and the spokes are DT Swiss champions 18mm (black).

I'm thinking that I need to start again. The last LBS suggested that they had been over tightened at some point as the last spoke fixed (friday) they guys said that the wheel was out of round and most likely wasn't round at the last repair. He said that he would like to think that I wouldn't be back, but suggested that it was highly likely another one would snap again.. and soon

So.. .Where do I go? What do I do to stop this happening? I want to keep the wheel weight the same as it currently is... I.e I don't want 30mm spokes to stop this.

So, where in Sydney is a good wheel builder? - noting that this type of work certainly is specialist when you talk to some.

Cheers

Where are you located ? There are at least two very good wheelbuilders in the Sutherland Shire in Ken from Kirrawee Cycles and Greg Ryan at TWE at Taren Point .... not sure about CBD but Cheeky Monkey at Newtown always seem to be building specialist tandem/fixie/Rohloff/other weird combos whenever I visit

I can also recommend Bob at Stanmore Cycles. He will spend time getting the build right and makes a robust wheel. He is also good at recommending the right parts for how you ride and what you are like (height, weight etc.). Good luck. A good wheel build is worth it in the end and really makes a factory set up look second rate.
