As the title suggests, i'm after some feedback on what others are using.
having just purchased a new bike with a carbon frame, id prefer not to over tighten any bolts, or run the risk of cracking the frame.
ive looked at all the usual suspect websites- Wiggle ,Chain reaction, Cell bikes, Pushys, torpedo 7, even Super Cheap Auto. the prices vary from as cheap as $60 to $250.
i guess my question is for the people that are using the cheaper models . how well calibrated / built are they .
after looking through the manuals, im after a model that can handle 2-15Nm.
any help or feedback appreciate

this belongs in the FW thread...

bought a shiny new $79 1/4" Kinchrome torque wrench a few months ago...

use it for the first time a month ago, set it to 4kN/m as per Ti bolt spec.....go to tighten it and SNAP... the bolt shears off.....
realised my shiny new toy is broken out of the box and will not torque at all (tighten or loosen)

and i threw out my receipt....FML

get a park tool beam style torque wrench... much more accurate and nothing to go wrong......

Not all torque wrenches are made by the company that puts their name on them sometimes your paying extra money for a certain brand name.

The Bikehand torque wrench in post #2 for $54 on ebay is also sold as a 'Giant' torque wrench for $90+, I've seen it sold under other brand names like 'BBB' as well as others .

If a big bike company like Giant is willing to put it's name on this torque wrench you'd think that it'd have to be OK.

The Pedros Demi Torque Wrench mentioned in post #7 is sold at CRC for $166 and at Cell for $211

This torque wrench is also sold as Shimano's Pro Torque Wrench for up to $150

The exact same torque wrench can be bought much cheaper at Torpedo 7 for $60

http://www.torpedo7.com.au/products/T7TOWN0WS/title/torpedo7-1-4-inch-drive-torque-wrench-set?

If Shimano is willing to sell this torque wrench in their 'Pro' tools range you'd think that it to be OK too.

I've seen this torque wrench sold under a few other names too.

This torque wrench is the MOT-15N model made by Matatakitoyo Tool Co.

Get a good brand, it does not need to come from a bike company either, I use Norbar.
It should come with a calibration certificate. Get it recalibrated periodically.
Keep it protected in a box, not banging around in the bottom of tool box.
Test it on a dummy bolt before use on the actual part for the first use at the setting.

It is a precision tool that needs to be looked after, if it is not accurate it is worthless.
