Hi Guys
Looking at up grading the driveline on my XC bike.
I have XT rear on it now with XT rapidfire shifters is there any other advantage in going to XTR rear except for the 50g weight saving?
Cheers
Stu
Spend the cash on xtr shifters, that's where you'll notice the real improvement.
Upgraded to XTR shifters last week (and some new XTR cables) and it is soooo much snappier and crisper.
Always get better shifters and a step lower rear mech
Listen to these guys.
Bike manufacturers have this nasty habit of speccing high end rear mechs to make their bikes look good, but the mech only works as well as the shifters and cables allow it to work. Added to that, a rear mech generally cops more damage than the shifters, so the shifters are a better long term investment.
I got my XTR shifters 2nd hand for about $150 and they are a massive improvement over the XT shifters that were brand new.
$80 gets you a set here
SRAM equipment works better because it has twice the cable movement of Shimano, so it's not as susceptible to problems caused by movement and stickiness in the cable.
